Can anyone back this up with a parts list!?!? That was me, and it applies to Power Stroke diesels only, since they are drive-by-wire (no throttle cable). If you were indeed interested in cruise control for a Power Stroke, let me know and I'll explain how it's done. Since we're on the subject, gas engines are easy, too. J.C. Or you could purchase the necessary parts from a wrecking yard for a factory installation. but if you're looking for bottom dollar, then one of these kits is the way to go. They generally work fine. Ok, well I'm new to this list although I've owned my F150 for almost 6 years. I'm sure that these questions have been asked many times before, but since I wasn't aware of this mailing list, I'm going to ask them again. I'm looking to make a few mods to my truck: 1990 F150 w/302 2X4 and EOD4 (I'm not sure of the gear ratio) I'm on a budget just like everyone else, so I'm looking at: 1. A cat back system either from edelbrock, gibson, or borla. I'm looking for a good mellow sound without waking the neighbors - I live in Texas (Houston), so rust is not too much of a problem, but we do get to the beach sometimes - Any suggestions. 2. A shift improver kit (Baumann seems like the better choice, is anyone happy with B&M?) Which brand is easier to install? My transmission just seems mushy compared to a friend's GMC. 3. Also, my tires have lived their useful life. They were decent highway tires, but really ugly and poor rain traction - any suggestions (I only get off the street occasionally). I just want something that looks rugged, but is a good highway tire (is that possible???) 4. One last question, my pickup is the midnight blue w/grey rocker panels. The paint has held up good (I guess I'm lucky), but I recently had a tailgate replaced (old one was stolen) and I now realize how shiny and bright my truck used to be. Any suggestions on wax/polish - I'm looking at either meguires/mothers/3M. Also, where's the best place to buy this stuff - locally or out of a catalog/magazine. If local, does anyone have suggestions for shops in the houston area? If you can get a random orbiting buffer (I paid $40) it makes short work of this job. Stay off the corners as the buffer/compound may "burn" the edges. After you finish, get a coat of wax on it immediately or you will lose yet another layer of paint. In the future, keep a coat of wax on it. It doesn't have to be the most expensive wax as long as you keep at it. When you can't see water beading on the paint it is time for more wax. Think of it as therapy. > > Also, where's the best place to buy this stuff - locally or out of a catalog/magazine. If local, does > anyone have suggestions for shops in the houston area? Try Summit racing. They advertise in just about every performance magazine out there. MAP sensor checked by substituting with no difference. . EGR feedback sensor also was checked by substitution with no difference. . fuel pressure regulator checked ok. PSI is about 30lb while idling. .. and I'm still having the same problem! I've been working on my own cars for over 20 years and this is really baffling! As I read this it sounds like your payload has just increased by 3,500 pounds due to the Camper, but what are you towing in addition - or are you? Adding air springs to stabilize the load is a great idea, but it is A Bad Idea to remove a leaf from the rear spring pack to soften the ride. Air springs *do not* increase the payload capacity, so by removing a leaf you will effectively be *reducing* your total payload capacity. If you want a softer ride, then reduce the air pressure in the springs and/or reduce the air pressure in the tires, but of course, only do this when the truck is empty. Low-end grunt is what gets heavy loads moving, and being in the "thick" of the HP powerband at highway speeds keeps it moving. Both describe the PowerStroke, and I just can't see how the V10 would make a good towing motor, unless you keep it pretty wound-up. Multivalve engines characteristically make power at high revs, so this is really just a trait of the new Ford engines (that's "progress" for ya') Best Regards, Jay ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Sep 1997 15:38:07 +0100 From: droberts Subject: Re: 87 F150 rocker panel rust repair.... Dear Almus: I'm not sure if I understand , it sounds like you are looking for the cab corner plus the rocker panel. Anyway the J.C. Whintey book has a good section on pick-up replacement panels with diagrams also a company called Mill Supply Inc in Cleveland OH (216) 241-5072 sells repacement panels. Call Mill and ask for the sheet on your truck, it has a diagram also. I have not ordered parts from either , the replacement panels were too large to fix the rust on my 86 F-150. I needed to fix rust above my rear wheel well and the panel ($50 I think) went from the gas filler door to the top of the bed, the cure would have been worse than the disease. I finally settled on a pop-lock cover for the release handle and put a hose clamp on the open hinge to prevent anyone from getting it off quickly (advice from the shop that replaced it). Apparently ford tailgates (especially w/XLT lariat trim) are really popular with theives - no wonder, to have a new one put together and painted was roughly ~$1200. You can find them used for ~$350, sometimes with a decent matching paint job - but I had insurance, so....new it is.
