My dad had it on his Ch*vy Suburban, and it could stop on a dime that was at least 20 feet long. In my truck the little REAR ANTILOCK light is always on, because someone disabled it, or it is broken. Please bear with me. We are experiencing similar problems with our 89 F250; has 460; heavy duty set up with tow package. My husband has completely changed out the brakes, replaced the master cylinder and the power assist (doohickey) . Brakes seem great when they're bled out, but the minute you turn on the ignition, boom pedal hits the floor. Truck stops ok for a while but then it starts to get real mushy. Any help out there? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 1997 17:13:05 -0400 From: "Andy Bell" Subject: Re: F350 Brakes I have seen instances where the front caliper slide pins rust inside of the caliper and make it almost impossible to stop within a reasonable distance. Some people notice this more when it is wet out side (raining)????? Have a thorough brake inspection done and make sure the pins and all valves are functioning properly. As for the ABS it should not be a contributor to the poor stopping unless something has gone wrong. The only time ABS should come into play is when the wheels are about to lockup. The rear ABS system was a poor design and can be fun to diagnose if anything is wrong. If the light is on that means that there is a problem with the ABS, but the conventional brake system still functions like it would without ABS at all. To get an error code from the ABS system ground the test connector ---- Different location in each type of vehicle --- the light should be on when the codes are retrieved. Count the flashes of the light and follow diagnostics from there--- some pre test exist though which can uncover a problem -- for example low brake fluid -- there is a big list though- A ford manual works best. Also to anyone else that has a concern with their Ford copy the VIN number down and what your concern is and the visit your ford dealer to see if they Will run it on OASIS for you see if there is a TSB or recall out for anything--- If you cannot diagnose the problem your self and none of the TSB"s help then bring it to a good technician -- it is amazing what some experience can do. SORRY FOR THE LONG MESSAGE - --- I CAN BE LONG WINDED--- I hope some of my messages do help all of you. CGI script being tested which will let us randomly rotate banners submitted by members. 2. CGI script which allows us to have password protected web pages. Many possible uses of this. 3. Many new web pages being tested. 4. New user survey form being tested. This time the user survey results will go on the web site (just the year/model/engine) 5. New voting form for a split into 3 lists! I've received a few emails about the possibility of this. It was suggested that we split along these lines: a) 1959/60 and older trucks b) 1960/61-1979 trucks c) 1980 and newer trucks A diesel split was also suggested. The user survey should give a indication of which split makes the most sense or if two new lists makes sense. This new list server costs less than the previous one so we can afford it. Current lists would keep the same addresses. 6. Domain registration. This would allow us to have an address independent of any provider - no more tracking down links to the site if we change web providers. 7. A couple of people mentioned helping out with the administration of the lists. Thanks! But.... the new list server cuts my administrative tasks from about 50 chores per night to about 10. Its no longer eating all my time. Please let me know what you think, either via the list or send private email to me. I especially want to hear about what everyone thinks about a 3rd (and possibly 4th) list. Be patient if you expect a response, given the history of these types of issues my mailbox will probably get flooded. - -Ken List Administrator, 1967 Ford F100, 390FE V8 Our web site: http://www.ford-trucks.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 1997 19:56:48 -0500 From: Ezekial Subject: Ford F-150 Brakes & More I have a 1988 F-150. I have NO problems with braking. I can stop on a dime if I have to. The rear antilocks have no problem either. And has always been that way, but back in Feb. I had to install a new master cylinder, it did improve a little but not a whole lot. I also have new brake pads all the way around and had the rotors turned. Also I would like to ask if anyone elses 5.0 V-8 leaks oil around the valve covers. Mine does, about 1 quart every 2 weeks. Sometimes more sometimes less, depending on how I drive also. I was wondering if just tighting them down a tad would help or not? Because I really don't want to pull off the fuel injection and all those damn wires to install new gaskets. And one final more question. For a short while I was doing some heavy off roading. A few "jumps". The front passenger side wheel is out of allignment and is leaning in towards the top. When going down the road it sometimes vibrates. I was wondering if it could be just the allignment doing this or maybe some broken stuff. I looked and everything seemed good. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. Oh and its 2 wheel drive. And yes the tires are wearing towards the inside, but they are all "BALD" so I haven't taken it in yet. I will soon though. Just wanting to get a few ideas. - -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- | Ezekial | 66 Mustang Fastback, 88 F-150 | ezekial |----Ezekials Cove: http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.galstar.com/~derrick/index.html ------| |--- Phantom Chat: http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.galstar.com/~derrick/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=live_chat ---| --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 1997 21:44:48 PDT From: meadjr Subject: F250 powerstroke VS Dodge 2500 Deisel We are looking at selling our 92 Bronco and getting eather a Powerstroke 250 4x4 or a Dodge 2500 cummings turbo 4x4. Martin" Subject: Re: F350 Brakes Hi Sheila, That sounds very interesting. (read: racking my pea-brain here...) As you probably already know, the 'power' in your power braking comes from the vacuum produced in your intake manifold (though some power brake systems are electric, etc.). Check to make sure that the hose going from the intake manifold to the booster is secure--tight clamps, no leaks. Listen carefully for vacuum leaks, too. Check the integrity of the hose. Do you seem to be losing fluid? Or is it just the pedal pressure all the time? About the front end The vibration could be a number of things---- check shocks-- loose front parts- tie rod ends -ball joints- etc. --- also with the jumping you were doing check for a bent wheel or bad tire- The alignment could be the tire wear problem----- but if the inward tilt is really noticeable send it in for an alignment and they can tell you if any thing is bent(spindle etc.)---- just make sure you check all of the front end parts well (even the springs) - ---------- > From: Ezekial > To: fordtrucks80up > Subject: Ford F-150 Brakes & More > Date: Wednesday, August 27, 1997 8:56 PM > > I have a 1988 F-150.
