Muccilli" To: muccilli Message-ID: I am sending this message to those who had helped me with ideas regarding the pulling/drifting troubles I was having with my 97 F-350 4x4 Powerstroke as well as some of the noises it was making. I finally got authorization to try another dealer to solve this problem. Yesterday, I took it there at 7:30AM and had it back by 4:30PM and was very satisifed with the results. Problem 1: drifting/pulling Since day 1 the truck had drifted, primarily to the right. The dealer I was working with kept checking alignment and kept telling me "everything is OK, that's the way they drive." After 8 trips and dealing with a good load of bullshit from this dealer, I got fed up and went elsewhere. Enough arguing got me around the Ford alignment warranty issue (only one alignment in the first 12000 miles) and I found another dealer (a larger one and one that seemed pretty knowledgable about the bigger trucks) willing to look at it. I came to find out that right side caster was so off that they needed the largest available wedge shim in between the spring and the axle to get it into spec. They also straightened out the steering wheel. Although the truck still has a slight tendency to follow road crown, it is 100 times better than it was before. Finally. Problem 2: clunking in front end I had a clunking noise in the front end that I was getting while applying the brakes and turning the steering wheel that I isolated to the right front spring. I believe that maybe the caster adjustment solved this, but they replaced some washers and grease boots on the tie rod ends and pitman arm end since they felt they were loose. The noise is gone. Problem 3: clicking in steering I had a clicking noise and a bit of play in the steering wheel when I drove at slow speeds (or which I heard when I applied up/down or left/right pressure to the wheel). They reseated the wheel against the upper bearing and applied some lubrication and it's as tight as it used to be. I want to thank everyone who gave a hand with ideas and listened to my bitching and moaning over the last few months. The recommendation that I have for anyone else dealing with troubles like this is to choose your dealer wisely when it comes to warranty service. I also recommend not putting up with the bullshit that they dish out--I wasted a lot of time getting this repaired because the original dealer hung me out to dry for quite a while. I will continue to use this new dealer even though they're a 45 minute drive from my house. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks to get a deteriorating bench seat replaced and am hoping the experience is just as good. The digest has just been fixed to include this index, plus it has unsubscribe instructions at the top and is smart enough to strip out our "trailer" on the bottom of each live list messsage. If you mean the one on the web site, I'm in the process of putting up a search engine which will handle indexed searched of the archives. First I have to get the new user survey scripts working, finalize our window stickers and put up a script which will rotate....
