Subject: RECALL: 98 Ford Ranger, F-Series, and cars.

I was watching the news last night and there is a recall for a lot of
Ford cars and trucks. Problems ranging from bad tires to something to do
with fuel lines. The 98 Ranger was on this list (A long with some
F-Series trucks; sorry I didn't take note to which ones). I think it was
all engine classes.

Here in the Pacific NW... sometimes it is difficult to squeeze between
the trees. I suppose the Modified Ranger would be a bit better for
that. Of course, that's why we use early Broncos :)

Probably someone with money and time with nothing else to do is the real
answer!!

Does anyone have any accurate information on the rated fifth wheel =
towing capacities for the 1999 Super Duty F250 and F350. I heard that =
it was 13,800 # and 13,500 # respectively. Seems strange considering =
the improvements to the Powerstroke etc. for 1999 and the ratings for =
the 1997 F250 and F350 was 14,000 # for both. Seems as though they are =
going in the wrong direction or are they encourage the introduction of =
the F450? How the heck do they come up with these ratings anyway?

There is a Ford TSB on this problem, look it up at ALLDATA.COM and scan
through the TSB's and you will find one related to E4OD transmission
noise. Have the dealer look up the TSB, and if he still won't do
anything, find another service department.

First I was wondering if anybody has found a better than stock
replacement for the engine fan on a 4.0 Ranger mine is cracking (as I
heard most do pre-maturely).

And second has anybody here supercharged the 4.0? Which
manufacturer? How is the performance? How was the install? Would you
recommend it? Any info on this at all would be great.

I have also seen this bute. It's called a super crew-cab and is made by
Centurion Conversions. It's a hot truck. I've even seen this super crew-cab
as a 4x4. Too cool. I've seen these trucks in Oklahoma and Missiouri.

Were the loose wires pulled at the drivers door switch, the passengers switch,
or is there a relay somewhere in between? I have the exact same problem only
my drivers side doesn't do anything, and the passenger side only locks.

Vortech has a good package. something like 3200 for the whole thing. the
system has a couple of components that are tricky to put in, like you need
to hook it up with the cars oil feed, so you need to add a fitting, and you
need to put a hole in your valve cover for the return oil from the charger.
you need to add an inline fuel pump, which isn't too bad, but the one
special tool you will need are the little fuel line release thingys. Other
than that, the rest of it is pretty easy: you have two plates that go in
under the air conditioner compressor, and it bolts on to that. then you
add a slightly longer serpentince belt, and you add some tubing in under
the hood to redirect the air through the charger.

i fairly long job, maybe 10, or 12 hours if you are not sure what you are
doing....
