Derek, I'd second the vote for a full set of Helm repair manuals for your truck, but that's a lotta bux. Chilton --> just got it (it is brand new). It is dead wrong in a few places that I have noticed already. They spend an inordinate amount of time describing what tools you should have. Not worth the money. Haynes --> it's been a bible to me! They have an annoying habit of saying "Installation is the reverse of removal." However, it has some invaluable info & makes a decent attempt at covering all the different years, models, xmissions, & engines. Definitely should have one. Owner's Bible ---> I've thumbed through it & will probably buy it soon. It doesn't cover as much as the Haynes, but it goes into detail (ex. they show step-by-step how to rebuild a Ford starter) that the other's don't. It has additional info, like driving tips & performance mods. Not what you need for general reference, but cool stuff nonetheless. 95 Bronco XLT steve >> From: Derek Whiteside >> Subject: best book for 92 F150?? >> What's the best book for me to get regarding my 92 F150? Depends on what kind of truck you've got, and how you use it. If it's a toy truck, used only for boulevard cruising, then car tires will work. But if it's a real truck, and gets used to carry a load, then putting car tires on it is asking for trouble. Most car tires will not have the weight rating to carry a load on a regular basis, and will be an accident wating to happen. - --- Alan Hepburn | | National Semiconductor | DON'T TREAD ON ME | Santa Clara, Ca | | alanh ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Dec 1997 10:11:44 -0600 From: "Chuck" Subject: Re: Water on the Floor John, I use to work in a glass shop many years ago, and people would come in all the time complaining about water in the floor and can't figure out where it's coming from. Well, 9 times out of 10 it was due to a leaking windshield and the water would run down the inside of the fire wall into the floor. Now here are some questions to answer: 1. Does it leak sitting still, if so turn on the garden hose and run water on the left side and then the right, it can leak on the left and puddle on the right 2. does it leak while driving and how fast are you going when it appears to start? 3. has the windshield been replaced before? if it turns out to be the windshield, have the windshield removed and then reinstalled again, this is time consuming and most glass shops will not guarantee that they will not break it when removing it. - -----Original Message----- From: John Pensko To: fordtrucks80up-digest Date: Tuesday, December 16, 1997 3:21 PM Subject: Water on the Floor >When I got my Ford Ranger in 93, I went and got some clear plastic for >the flooring. I have had, for about the last month, trouble with the engine "stumbling" under load, hard cold-starting, and mild "backfires" (in the air intake manifold, I think). After it warms up, it is much better, but will still stumble a bit. I have replaced the fuel filter, and cleaned the air intake manifold and air bypass valve (the easy stuff!). Ever change the brake fluid? Many people forget it should be changed every 30-45K miles... that's because it's hydrophillic (attracts and absorbs water) and this does absolutely no good for the inside of the _steel_ brake "plumbing". Rust forms and, I would venture, either some rust clogged that brake line OR the actual piston in the brake is not moving as freely as it should! I suggest having a mechanic rebuild that side. Also, check that the pad is not warped and that the bearings in that wheel are not out of specs. > I threw it in reverse and got up a little speed then slammed the > brakes on.
