Yes, the F150 outsold the Ch*vy and GMC trucks for 15 years running. But it has not outsold Ch*vy and GMC trucks combined. And they are basically the same truck. Ahhhh, marketing.... I think "F" series out sell GMC and Chevy combined. "F" series trucks are the #1 selling vehicle period, including cars of all makes. I have read that "F" series trucks outsell #2 & #3 combined (which ever they may be that particular year). Their worry may be justified. According to a recent article in one of the Detroit newpapers, Ford will probably spend a couple billion dollars on renovating the Rouge plant (Dearborn) for Ranger production. If this does happen, the Mustang will be moved 35 miles away to Wixom where it will be built along with a new smaller Lincoln model, both which will based on the new upcoming DEW-98 RWD platform. The article also mentioned that such a move MAY mean the end of the Twin Cities plant. For what it's worth, my brand new '98 Ranger 4X4 Supercab, which was built at the Twin Cities plant, is one high quality vehicle. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Nov 1997 11:29:47 -0700 From: "Randy Kindler" Subject: re: Wrong badge > .....I wouldn't assume the worst yet - after working in and around new cars > and trucks for the past ten years I've seen a lot worse! It is also taking longer to develop oil pressure. I Think the noise is valve train noise. It started doing this about a week ago. What could be causing it? Is it serious? Any feedback is welcome. As for the high-pressure oil pump, it sounds like a good lead, but I would be pissed! Ford likes to tout in the PowerStroke literature about a fleet of PowerStroke equipped vehicles running 200,000 miles with no more than routine maintenance, and you've only racked up 143,000. I'd wait to see what they say, but I'd argue that the part was defective and see if they'll pick up some of the tab. Plan to spend a few hours to the better part of the day doing it. I have done it and it was lots of work. I have a 4" lift on mine and the bushings were a constant source of problems. A good suspension guy changed them the last time and went with an application from a late 60's truck. These have a steel sleeve in them and they haven't shown any signs of wear since they were put in. Prior to this, I could count on changing them every year. If you get a good shop manual, it will have all the do's and don'ts listed in it. Good Luck Bob At 01:39 PM 11/16/97 -0500, you wrote: >I was wondering how hard it is to change these. I was thinking of using a stripper and removing the clear coating and then polishing them, someone at work told me that this is a bad idea because the aluminum is pourous and will hold water and eventually do damage to the wheels.
