Check the fuel filter first since they both are having problems. Could also be a bad pressure regulator? Don't forget that some of those truck were recalled for tank cross-filling, I found out later that they have to get to the pumps for the recall, so if you sweet talk your dealer he might replace the pumps in the process and only charge for the pump and the 'extra' labor. Anyone ever bought one of those pressure gauges that hooks up to the schrader (sp?) valve on the fuel rail to check fuel pressure. A word of advice on changing pumps...first be careful, second I found it easier to remove the bed and replace both at the same time rather than trying to drop tanks - if you have access to a forklift, hoist or something, taking off the bed is a piece of cake. Do you have any information in regards to this? If this is true, why and what was done to preserve the softer ride characteristics of the F250 over the F350? All of this area has been replaced and > supposedly as long as you plug in the block heaer on cold nites it starts > easily. Should I be concerned about this? We had ours replaced, also, but these have not been big areas of concern. Even though we live in Southern California, we live at a higher altitude and get some snow, but we haven't had problems here. Watch out for the rear seals. We had to keep having it replaced - it appears that the factory axle was faulty - the bar wore a wider hole in the rear seals and we had to have it fixed completely at least seven times since we bought the truck new in 1989. We are now experiencing a starting problem - we aren't sure yet what it is. We've done just about everything short of a voodoo ritual. The paint can be redone by Ford for free if you push it. They had an unofficial recall of the paint. You have to submit the truck for a "tape" test. Ours failed (as I knew it would since it was flaking off everywhere). If you fail the test, you get a complete paint job for free. So, don't let them get away with telling you that it's not possible. Tell the dealer that you know for a fact that many Ford trucks/SUV's from this era suffered from faulty paint and that you know they can make it right... Otherwise, we really have enjoyed the truck. My husband loves the diesel. As a matter of fact, next to me, the truck is number one. You are right to be concerned about the truck merely because of its age and the fact that you start looking at a lot of repairs that can cost a lot in labor. If I have time, I'll pull the file and see what else we have had done on it and why.
