The valve is located on top of the engine, just behind the air filter, almost against the firewall. To get to the valve you have to remove the air filter assembly. Specifically, I'm wondering whether it is a part that needs to be changed, since it functions more or less like a PCV valve on a gasoline fuel injected engine. According to a Haynes manual I picked up a few years back the CDR valves on the 5.7 and 6.2 liter diesels in GMs, I believe, need to be replaced every 30,000 miles. Manual does not say whether this applies to the 7.3--only gives instructions on how to replace it. I would be very grateful for any wisdom/advice. Thanks. David H. The main difference that I know of between the 44 and 44HD is the carrier (which is stronger and heavier in the 44HD) and the lube capacity (a little bigger in the 44HD). I don't know if the 44 carrier will bolt up to the TTB housing for a 44HD, but you could compare the bolt positions on the front side of the TTB on your Bronco with those on the F250 and figure it out. As far as I know, the 44 and 44HD use the same ring and pinion gears, bearings, etc. The F250 TTB is designed to work with a leaf spring suspension system while the F150/Bronco TTB is designed for the coil spring system. The "beams" are probably different to accommodate the different spring perches and suspension points (F150/Bronco track bars) required. I don't know if the steering knuckles and spindles are the same for Broncos and F250s, but they might be different, too. Hope this answers some of your questions. Dave R. When fuel burns, it reacts with oxygen in the air to form carbon dioxide and water (among other things). Since the combustion process releases heat energy, the water is in the form of vapor. When it makes its way through the exhaust system, particularly when the system is cold, or in cold weather, the exhaust gasses can cool to the point where the water vapor condenses into liquid water. This can accumulate in the exhaust system or run out the end, pooling under the exhaust output. - -- or -- Maybe you have a head gasket leak (there are other ways that coolant can get into the engine) and you are getting coolant into the combustion chamber. If it is bad, you're usually leaving a steam trail behind you. If not bad, you might not notice, but there will usually be indications. These can include: losing coolant, fouling plugs with a DRY carbon film, bubbles appearing in your cooling system. Others might have some other symptoms and suggest places that may allow coolant into the engine, like cracked head or block, etc. Let's hope your water is just from normal combustion. - -- Best Regards, Dave Baldwin ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 13:59:35 -0700 From: bob Subject: Re: PCV Filter LarryAll > Is it inside the air cleaner box?
