Scott and Jim,
This should work on yours as well. If I am not mistaken (and I know I'll
get corrected if I'm wrong) all 1991 thru 1996 models had the
multi-function switch on the left side of the steering column and can be
fixed this way. It appears the dash mounted switches are sealed units
and have to be replaced, but the aren't as likely to have the same
problem.

My 1985 (bought in 84) has the original evaporator.  You've got something
going on.  When's the last time it was completely evacuated and the dryer
changed?
