That is unless there is an FAQ area that has most of that info. Do any of you have the 4.9 I 6 with a MotorCraft carb # E5TE? I can't find that particular number in the Chilton Manual for the trucks. Mills" Subject: Cold speedo error? Here's a good one...... I have noticed several times since the "real" winter arrived that the speedo on my 91 F-250 reads high when it's cold. I was out after the first 20 degree night after I got the truck and the speedo said I was going 65 on a road that usually 45 is the max on. Later that day afer the outside temp came up into the 30's and the truck sat in the sun, it seemed ok. JUst last weekend, after another 20 degree night, I was out with a buddy on the interstate when he asks me on the radio why am I only doing 55 when the limit is 65? I had the cruise set for about 67! I have the stock 235/85R16 tires on the truck, so I know it's not that. The key seems to be cold soak overnight close to or below freezing and it reads high. When everything has had several hours to warm up, it's ok. I'm suspecting the speedo head unit is the problem since the truck uses a mechanical speedo. My questions are... Can the speedo be changed with out changing the odometer? Can I do it or does it have to go to a shop? I'm reasonably mechanically inclined, but since this may require tampering with the odometer, are there legal issues? Any body from Pennsylvania got any advice? Hi Monte, Does this sound like Real Serious Engine Blow-by?? ;-)) Well, start at the start, do a compression test both dry then wet, and then post the results back here ... Let us all share in the messy details ..... In the mean time, prepare yourself for possible major engine surgery. regards Les Lost in the land of OZ "Monte L.
