Call your Ford dealer with your VIN on this common cross tank fuel flow
problem. There is a TSB or maybe even a recall covering this. Has to do
with the tank selector valve and check valves. Good news that the codes
are only with the front tank. Fix your front tank cross flow problem and
your codes are probably fixed too. What codes are you getting?

Troy,

I don't have any experience with ford carberetted engines but I had
early model dodges. It doesn't sound like the engine is being choked
out but in fact is to lean. When you depress the gas pedal on a cold
engine the choke should close which also activates the fast idle cam.
It should close the butterfly completely. As soon as the engine starts,
vacuum through the choke pull off opens the choke about a quarter inch
or so while still leaving the throttle on the fast idle. If yours is out
of adjustment and pulls it open a little to far, the engine will die.
Depressing the gas pedal again will close the choke and start the
process again. This is easy to watch by having a friend start it while
you watch with the air cleaner cover off. The linkage adjusts by
bending the connection to shorten or lengthen the throw. That's how it
works on earlier Chryslers anyway. Usually the choke pulloff (Or choke
vacuum diaphram) fails by not opening at all in which case you get lots
of black smoke until the engine heat opens the choke.. Hope this
helps....

Okay guys, I am starting to get just a little too much of this caca !!!!
When I follow the instructions to be removed from their list, guess what,
its not possible for them to receive my notice.
The temptation to fight fire with fire is starting to look good, suggestions
please and note that I understand Ford computers and systems pretty well ( I

fluently - still struggling to finish my undergrade degree in Physics and

Sorry for the bitchin' and moaning, but this is getting ridiculous.

Hi Phred :)
I've run into this kind of harassment before. I put together a little
script that sent 100's of thousands of e-mails to the offender. It worked
pretty good - I totally overwhelmed their mail server. They were not able
to send out any spam until I stopped. As a matter of fact, they begged me
to stop sending them e-mail! Let me know if you would like me to send you
a similar script.

When I had such a bad hesitation problem (89 f250 351 v8), I finally took
it to a garage and told them to check the codes (if you're getting a check
engine light). It was VERY FRUSTRATING. When they told me what it was, I
just let them replace it. Sort of the "finders keepers" deal. But it did
send a code to the computer, and that's how I knew for sure.

Good luck.

Phred,

I hear ya. Spam and spammers suck. I've found no cure other than set
preferences to immediately trash all e-mails received from un-authorized

Undergrad in physics, eh? Good for you! I went to work for the gove right

I killed ya afterwards. Still, Ken Payne does a pretty good job of dealing
with spammers. Kudos, Ken.

With software now available to track spammers (Ken found the home address,
remember?) look for more prosecutions to slow the jerks some. Now, if I
could just get *$%*(^$#% telemarketers to stop calling when I'm relaxing on
the throne....

By the way, I'm working on undergrad degree #3--Human Learning, K-8. I wanna

Hmmm???

That's why I took it to a garage... I wasn't familiar with codes, either.
But I knew something was up when the "CHECK ENGINE" light came on... Means
there's some messages being stored by the computer. Best thing to do if you
don't want to buy a scanner or don't have time to figure out how to get the
codes otherwise is to take it in, preferably pretty soon after the check
engine light is coming on. The fellas at the garage should then be able to
call you up while you work and let you know what they found.

Good luck, if I knew anymore I'd tell you,

Andy

NEVER respond to them to remove you from the list. Even if it's an
above board company and they do remove you from their list, you have now
confirmed you have a valid email address and you read your mail which
makes it easier to resell the list. Just hit delete.

Subject: FTE 80-96 - Questions for you'se knowledgable folks

Hi all,

I have a couple of questions for ya'll. I am a frequent lurker as I
usually have no valuable input usually, but like to see what people are
doing and fixing on their Fords.

Anyway, here goes:

1. Has anyone with a single battery added a second one? My 89 F-350 would
like a second. I have heard that it's easy, but I went to find a second
factory tray today and the diesels have a traditional aircleaner on top of
the engine. I was told that the factory optional second battery and the
second one on the diesels have a relocation bracket for the overflow/wiper
bottle combo. I don't know how that would work as my airbox is RIGHT behind
the bottle, which is where the battery would be. I have a few other
options: A) a spiral cell/gell cell with a battery buddy B)put the second
battery in the bed as I have a canopy, and the gell cells don't need a vent
C) Get a stinger 1000. This is made for guys with 5000 watt stereos and is
a dry cell w/1000 CCA.
Any ideas fellas? I had a second battery on my last truck (a '73 F-250)
and it saved my ass a couple of times.

2. I just had my passenger side power window stop working. It's not the
switch, because the switch shows a draw on the factory volt meter. (I plan
on verifying the switch by trying the passenger side switch tomorrow AM) My
question is this: What is the "common" problem if any with Fords of this
era. If the volt meter is any indication, it is bound up. What I mean is....
