Looking for your expiernce with 460 mods such as Edelbrock RV cam,
manifold and carb for towing. I have done this with great success on a
Grand Wagoneer. I'm thinking of doing it to my crew cab dually, 1985,
460, C-6, 410 rear. Tell me your stories.

Can't say for the 460 (mine's a '91 w/FI),but on my '81 F-250 w/400M,I
installed an Edelbrock Performer manifold, an RV cam from NAPA, and a Holley
650 progressive carb. This was to replace the stock setup w/2-bbl carb.
This definitely woke the engine up! I could take my foot off the brake, put it
on the throttle, and break the rear tires loose with Posi! Fuel mileage
improved over 20%,too (a nice bonus!). I had duals (2.5") on it to help it a
little.
Definitely a fun drive!

Peter,

Some older Ford diesels with high mileage had problems when low sulfur fuel
replaced the old diesel at the stations. The old fuel had more lubricity and
the older pumps were designed for that fuel.

The low sulfur fuel was mandated before your truck was manufactured and your
pump was designed to operate on that fuel.

If there is a problem with late model (PSD) diesels, I have not heard anything
about it.

Recommend you zoom over to www.abol.com/users/jlester/ and check out what the
folks on the Ford Diesel Web Page say on the subject.

If you find there is or is not a problem, please let us all know.

Thanks, Butch Davis-

Subject: FTE 80-96 - 300 Straight six buildup

Dear Brandon,

There are several companies that offer HIPO pieces for the 300/6.
Clifford Performance is THE source for straight 4 and 6s, they have
headers, cams, manifolds pistons etc, HOWEVER most is for the carbed
300. Some may be able to be modified for the FI model. Offenhauser, a
intake manifold company, makes a manifold for the carbed 300 which you
may be able to modify, they claim an extra 100HP with their manifold,
good headers, and a new cam, I guess the 300/6 is pretty choked off
compared to most. All of the big cam companies will custom grind you a
cam at your request and help you select a good profile for it. Many
custom piston places will do the same also and since you only need six
instead of eight it may be worth it. Get a K+N filter and a really good
set of plug wires and coil, stay away from that Jacob's crap, I had one
and wish I never spent the $350!! I've heard the same from many others
too. If you have a auto consider a tranny valve body kit and a tranny
cooler upgrade to deal with extra heat, those two things will really
wake the truck up too. Hope this helps.

Bryan

The only store I've been at is in Oregon. The prices are right and they
usually have some kind of special going. They'll put you on their mailing
list.

Two announcements:

1. Our new classifieds manager is on line. Check it out. Its
free. Although it says it supports photo ads, that feature
has been disabled (FTE is not a classifieds site so I don't
want to focus a lot of energy maintaining photos). In the
future, we'll turn on keyword notify; this feature means
that you can have the classifieds email you whenever a keyword
you select appears in a new ad. It you want photo ads, check
out http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.classics4sale.com/, they're one of our sponsors
and they have a pretty good truck selection up to the 1970s.
If anyone knows of a similar site for newer trucks, feel free
to post the URL.

2. Each pictorial page now pulls up a banner ad. These banners
will not be used by advertisers! I don't think it would be
ethical to advertise on pages featuring your trucks. Rather,
the banner ads will be used to notify visitors of FTE's free
services such as the classifieds, email groups, bbs, etc.
This should help newcomers.

On a final note (not an FTE announcement), there is now a Ford
truck newsgroup: alt.trucks.ford . Some of you may find it helpful,
so far it doesn't seem to be a spam target. Its new so your
Usenet server may not have it. Please ask your provider about
it as it is not an FTE service.
