It sounds great but it removed a bit too much of of the backpressure on the engine. Back pressure helps the low end, so I have to give it a bit more gas in second, and doing 55-60 it feels like the rpm's are a bit low. The exhaust shop ordered the tail pipes and all was good for a couple of years, but this summer I was pulling a boat and had my camper on into a head wind. I couldent get out of third and the left tail pipe got hot enough to melt a groove in the spair tire. If I had to do over again I would leave the cat on and go from there Stephen Hansen 92 F250 82 LTD II 50 F-1 (some assembly required) == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Sep 1998 10:24:12 -0500 From: "Stephen W. As the pump uses fuel to cool and lubricate itself, running the tank empty isn't suggested. ( I do it too!) Took it out for a test drive, first thing noticed steering wheel off center, brakes felt fair. Jacked it up and discovered the tie rod end shot. (the ford shop missed it when he had them do a inspection on it) Replaced it, rebuilt the front brakes. He drove it and was impressed with the difference. I sent him to a alighnment shop, and he thinks I am the automotive repair god. I live in Tulsa and I had it done in the midst of some 100+ days. I have to turn it down and I have a SuperCab. Get all of your parts from a salvage yard and make sure the guy doing it knows what he is doing. If the conversion is not done properly (134A is very sensitive to pressure variances) it will not cool as well as it should. Total bill for my conversion was about $300 parts/labor. I did all of the parts hunting and parts installation. My mechanic did the conversion and charging. - -----Original Message----- From: dhollingworth Sent: Monday, August 03, 1998 8:03 PM To: 80-96-list Subject: FTE 80-96 - Re: Air Conditioning Conversion to R134a I have a 1984 Ford Bronco and need to have the A/C fixed. It has leaked for several years and this year it completely lost it's charge. I brought it to a reputable auto a/c repair shop and they said they the compressor was shot (after 200,000 miles) and it also needed the accumulator/drier replaced and a new orifice tube. Then they would flush the system and recharge with R-134a. Unfortunately the price tag for all this was pretty steep - $790. So I wanted to check out all the options before I went ahead and had this done. 1) Has anyone out there had their A/C converted to R-134a? How well did it cool after the conversion? 2) Does anyone know what the official Ford recommendation it for this? Is there a TSB out there to look at? Did any of the later Broncos come with R134a? Thanks in advance for the help. Dave _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. A place and time to meet has not been picked yet. I was planning on attending this get together, until my place of employment changed my plans with out asking me. Another words, I now have to work that weekend and won't be able to make it. For those of you planning to go, you might want to talk among yourselves and try and pick a location and time to meet. I apologize for not sending this reminder sooner. Ford shop not able to give me a straight answer on why the front fuel gauge only reads 1/4 fuel when full. Rear tank shows full but isnt pumping fuel. Suspect bad in tank pump. Have new pump in the front tank. Truck has also left me stranded, I just bought it a couple of weeks ago. I rebuilt the holly 4-barrel, double pumper, it is a ford carb. I don't know if the switch over switch is bad or maybe the 6 port switch over valve is. There is a junction block on the firewall that has two wires connected to it and goes into the wiring harness. Fuel gauge works when I put a hot wire to it. Do you know what the switch is called and if there is suppose to be another wire on it. Is there somewhere on the net that I can get a wire diagram for same vehicle. appreciate the help, brian == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Sep 1998 21:10:32 -0500 From: lordjanusz Subject: FTE 80-96 - Re: camshafts and intake vacuum, also brakes Mike yelps: >Help! This is not necessarily fatal on a carburated motor, but it can really confuse your EEC-IV computer. This is why I have not cammed up my 300. Still, there is a fix: convert to Mass Air metering. The Mass Air kit (from Motorsport SVO) includes a new computer and is MUCH more tolerant of performance mods. You're in luck: they make one for 5.0 trucks. I pull horses too with my '94 F150 (300ci) so I know where you're coming from. (C'mon, baby, PULL...) BTW, my rear brakes also lock up when they've been sitting out in damp weather. Antilock brakes my Somebody's gonna get hurt because of this one. lordjanusz "The beatings will continue until morale improves..." _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. I have recently purchased a F250, s/c, diesel 4x4 with automatic, and the questions are: Fuel gauges - when both tanks read empty, it only takes ~9-10 gallons to fill up each tank. What gives? Leaky floats? Mileage - what should the mileage be in town and highway? Front bench seat - I would like to have head rests. Has anyone converted existing to headrests? What are the options? Not adverse to putting in later model bench seat with rests or even bucket seats. Rear bench seat - has anyone put in headrests in the rear or crafted them? Instrument panel lights - how hard is it to replace the instrument lights? Headliner - coming down, can it be reattached or needs to be replaced? Tires - two of the 235 85 16s are badly worn and will need to be replaced soon. Will be used to tow and launch a 18' boat and as a third auto. Suggestions for good wet traction? Thats it for now.
