I have an 88 F350 4x4 with the stock 351 with the C6. Yesterday when I was driving home the truck just stopped running, no sputtering, just silence. I could still turn the truck over, but it just wouldn't start. I also noticed I didn't have my "Check Engine" light when I had the ignition turned to the on position with the truck not running. This went on for about 15 minutes then I turned the ignition on one time and noticed the "Check Engine" light was now on and the truck fired right up. I then started driving home via the local motocross track. I was there for 2 hours jumped in the truck, made it about a mile and it stopped again. No "check engine" light again, no starting. It hasn't started for a few hours. Anyone seen this before? I haven't started troubleshooting it yet except for checking the fuses, the fuel inertia switch and what I could see under the hood. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, thinking it might re-set the computer. It didn't. I do have spark so I'm leaning toward the EEC computer having killed the fuel pumps. The truck has dual tanks so I doubt both fuel pumps would die at the same time. I have read the Haynes manual on extracting fault codes from the EEC but have never done it and would like to know any tips or other peoples experiences, for, as I type this, my truck is sitting humiliated in the driveway. It suffered the humiliation of being towed home last night by, yes, a C***Y. Well here goes again.... If you are interested in painting your truck or need information on paints and prep. work there is a web site that I think will nterest you. It is located at www.horizonweb.com/wwwboard/Spray_101/wwwboard.html I hope you like that site as well as I did. It has a question and answer format and it shows some of the topics that have been discussed over the last several month. My ranger did the same thing to me and I found the connections to the inertia switch had burned the the point of only occasional contact. Would run a while and then stop cold. I stuck a paper clip in the connector and it ran all the time. Just an observation, good luck and stay away from them Ch*vys! Based on this info, I decided on KYB shocks, purchased 4 of 'em a couple days ago, and have been happy ever since. They gave my truck a firmer, more controlled ride without being rough. Thought about the Bilstein's but they were too much $$. According to KYB tech, Bilstein and KYB share very similar monotube designs. He mentioned that both shocks are very good and Bilstein's pressure was about 50psi more than the KYB's. Thanks again, Jon == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jun 1998 19:21:20 -0800 From: "Casey Vandor" Subject: FTE 80-96 - Water Stain I have those round rope cleats on the sides of the bed of the truck. When I bought the truck, the previous owner told me the things had started caroding (spell) from day one, so there is a trail of white down the brown paint and across the stripes. Is there anything I can do to get rid of them? I have tried Blue Coral Car Wash Gel and lots of elbow grease, but they are there to stay. Touch up is out of the quiestion too, as no body here makes Medium Walnut Mettallic color except Ford who would love to sell me a gallon for $100.00!! We had quite a discussion on this new SUV a few months back. The last name that I remember it being called was the Excursion. Based on an F-350 chassis (I LOVE the new design) and BIGGER than the 'burban!!! That should look like one sweet vehicle, but to my knowledge no one has yet to post a web site where you can get a clear picture, since Ford is trying to be somewhat discreet about it. Someone even mentioned the fact that you NEVER used to see ads for the 'burban but you do now. They are taking advantage of still being able to say it's the biggest SUV in the world...not for long. I just saw a $1000 factory cash back for buying one too, thought I'd never see THAT! Later, Randy (Brew) Bill C.
