Hi, I posted a message about my granfather buying an F-250 for his farm,
and someone said that he should get a diesel, and i thank that person for recomending
that and i agree, but my grandfather does not think he needs it and he says it would
cost more. Also i stated in the message that he wants a 92 or newer and he wants
it to have less than about 60,000 miles, someone asked why those specifacations?
if it were up to me i would just get one that is not to old and in good condition.
But he says he wants one that is not old and he wants it to be pretty new (he is
that kind of person meanining he has to have a car that is pretty new).
At this point we have just about made our mind thanks to you guys, we want
an F-250 that is a 92 or newer, in good condition, less than about 70,000 miles,
and maybe a diesel, he would like it to be under $11,500 if possible. If anyone
has one with these specifacations or knows of anyone with these specifacations and
it is for sale in Maryland, New Jersy, PA, or Delaware please let me know.
Sory for such a long message,
Scottie

Subject: FTE 80-96 - Coolant loss

Found an interesting fault this morning. I had an intermittant coolant
loss problem I just couldn't figure out until it struck me like lightening.
On my vehicle there are two ports just below the radiator cap. One for
the overflow bottle and the other one for the EGR cooler (5.0L EFI). Seems
the two hoses were reversed meaning the cooling system was never under any
pressure. The lower port is below the cap seal and permits a constant flow
through the EGR cooler to the radiator. The upper port is the pressure
relief to the overflow bottle. When they were reversed the hot coolant
went directly to the bottle through the lower port .ie. before the cap and
overflowed. The EGR probably never reached proper operating temperature
and, I'm assuming here, the fuel mixture stayed rich, or at least richer
than normal. Upon shutdown and with no pressure built up the stuff just
boiled away due to heat soak and then on cooling sucked in air because the
bottle didn't contain enough recovery coolant.

I think there was another post several days ago very similar. Might be
something to check.

Just by way of verification, if someone has the same setup that hasn't been
monkeyed with I would appreciate knowing the hose connections.

I have a 1998 F250 4X4 with American Racing wheels. They are aluminum
with a clear finish. The wheels still look good but nicks and scratches in
the finish have let in water and the finish has cracked and peeled around
the nicks. Any way to remove this finish, clean and re-apply? Maybe
something that could be used with the tire still mounted? Chemicals? Walnut
shell blasting?

Kelley Blue Book has a web page that gives values...

http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.kbb.com

I believe Edmunds and some others also have on-line "books" to get ideas on
value. I ran yours thru the Kelley page and it says the range is about 4300
for a trade-in (basically "low book") to about 9000 retail ("high book").
I'd guess it would be somewhere in between...the 5000 area is probably
about right. You might want to run it yourself so you can be more accurate
about options and zip code altho I doubt it makes a whole lot of difference.

Hope this helps...

Subject: FTE 80-96 - Diesel Repower

I have been getting things together now for quite sometime on
swapping in a diesel. (not soon, but hopefuly in a few years.) Since I
can't take a loan to buy a new (new to me) truck, I decided to work with
what I have. I was interested in putting in a cummins, but there was a
little too much modification for what I had in mind. So instead I decided on
the 7.3L Navistar. I have everything planned as to what I need except for
transsmision and transfer case. I brought this up on the cummins list, and
they were very helpful about it. I was told that the
T-18 4 sp had to broad of a gear range, and that a 5 speed would be my best
choice. My question is, what is the name of the tranny I am looking for?
Then the t-case I have is the NP208 or 208F (not sure, seen it called both)
would the BW 13-56 be a good replacement? The one major thing that stood
in the way of the cummins swap was the fact that I had to cut crossmembers
to do it. That seemed dumb to do to me, I figured they were there for a
reason. Will the 7.3L fit in a 83 Reg cab 4x4 F-250 currently with the 351W
(with no frame mods or only slight body work)? If not, how about the old
6.9L?

Thanks
Casey

I put a set of Westins on my F250 EC and I
really like them. They fit great and they use
existing cab mounts & holes so you dont
have to get out the drill. Since your truck is
white in the center, paint the bars white also.
Lowes has awhite epoxy in a spray can that
matches your oxford white and this stuff really
holds up.Also the Westins are the full length
of your cab & cost about $160 here in Pa

Nerf bars are not my favorite thing, but if you are going to put some
on anyway, do not get the Westins! I work at a Ford dealership and see all
sorts of trucks with nerf bars. We have problems from noise to vibrations
with them. The customers want them fixed under warranty but we cant because
it is aftermarket. Any way, the westins have the worst and weakest mounting
brackets of anything I have seen. I dont know who has the best, but I do
remember raising up a truck and seeing the mounting brackets and how cheap
they were. It stuck in my mind, and the name on the bar pad was Westin. My

I'll respond to this with a positive suggestion on which brand to go with.
J&J Enterprises makes a "Nerf-N-Step" that is nicer looking than most of the
nerf bars out there, IMHO, and have a sharp lighting kit available
optionally (I say go for it!). I had these on my 1995 Dodge Ram and they
