My name is Dan (I use my uncle's email account) and live in South Carolina. In 1994, I bought my first Bronco to help me move out of my apartment. It wasn't much to look at given the advanced state of cancer rust. It was an 85 basic model. It had nothing on it, vinyl seats, 300 straight six, 3-speed granny gear, no air, and no power accessories, but it ran great, always started without hesitation and handled like no truck I had ever driven. However, I loved it. I use the past tense, because a friend came upon hard times and I sold it to him as he needed a vehicle. Since then, I bought an '86 XLT with a 302 (sold it) and now own another 85 with a 351 HO. Now, my question is this: I bought my '85 knowing that the engine was going to need a rebuild. Rather than rebuild it, I think that I am going to swap the 351 with a '71 429 out of an old LTD. The 429 is in incredibly good shape (can't say much for the LTD surrounding it), but I need some help/advice from any/all of you. 1) I am fairly certain that the oil pump on the 429 is in the front and in the rear on the 351. As such, I imagine that the oil pan is going to need to be changed. Any suggestions? 2) Also, are the engine mounts the same (or reconfigurable)? Or, am I going to need to change them? If so, where should I get the replacements? 3) I plan on switching the ignition to an elctronic ignition. Any suggestions on brands? I would greatly appreciate any help/advice that anyone can offer. It is a wire connector that you can find right in front of the EEC-IV module on the distributor. It is actually in the wiring harness off of the module. It is an in-line connector that you unplug to set the timing. When my truck shifts past 2nd there seems to be two more gears, a quick third, then 4th gear (with the OD shut off) or it's slipping (OH S%&T) between 2nd and 3rd. I bought this truck a year and a half ago with 20K and have only put on another 5K. From the time I got it I can feel in the seat of my pants a thump (in the truck not my pants) about 1 second after I accelerate from a stop. I've tried it with the OD off, with the selector in 1st and in 2nd. I've even coasted it to a stop without using the brake thinking that a brake shoe or pad was hanging up. It still thumped. It feels like when something shifts in the bed but it is very slight and inaudible. You just feel it. It's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance. Been to tired to post and I have a few questions. This question isn't a truck question but it is a Ford question, well actually a Merc one. A neighbor kid is replacing his radiator in his Cougar. He broke one of the fittings off the trans cooling line. It isn't the standard flared fitting that I'm used to. The line goes into the fitting but isn't flared on the end. The line doesn't come out of the fitting and the only thing I can think of that prevents the fluid from leaking between the fitting and tubing is o-rings. Pep-boys and a local parts store could only offer standard flared tubing which will fit into the radiator but, without the proper mate the flare....
