Roger, You may want to try insulating the fuel line where it runs across the engine. Armaflex is a black foam rubber commonly used for insulating refrigerant lines, and should be able to withstand the heat of the engine compartment.Try a hardware store to find it.I wouln't use that brown plastic pipe insulation. It melts pretty easy and then you will have a mess to deal with in addition to the problem. My 1985 F 250, with a 351 modified Cleveland (1978), is vapor locking in the 95+ NM heat. Anyone with experience/ideas would be appreciated. Took us all day to get back home, cooling it down with water over theradiator and ice cubes on the fuel line, which runs across the top of the engine. Fuel in the fuel filter appeared to be boiling. Thanks for any help. Roger Laguna, NM >> Roger, what type of fuel are you using? Does it have ethanol in it? I live in Arizona and do not have any vapor lock problems in 115 degree heat unless you try to run oxygenated gasoline. Can you buy regular unleaded gas? Jerry O. Yes, you should reroute the fuel line if practicable. Something else you may try that worked for me. Some auto parts stores sell a 1/2" riser plate made of "phenolic resin" that bolts between the carb and manifold which insulates the carb from the heat, and solved my problem. == FTE: Unsubscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 14:44:31 -0400 From: "Charles Brown" Subject: FTE 80-96 - Diesel Stumbling My 1985 F350 diesel with 120k started losing power and putting blue smoke out the exhaust. My first thought is injector pump or fuel injector problems. Does this sound right? I asked one of the contractors who has been working on the project (testing existing control units) about my specific vehicles ('94 F150, '95 Explorer, '89 Probe) and when he called me a few days later he told me that those should be fine.
