Ford sells more trucks than everyone else combined. They can't make them fast
enough. Consequently, the customer relations folks have an attitude problem.
They figure that they don't have to do the right thing to continue to sell
Ford trucks. And, you know what; THEY'RE RIGHT! I had a fight with Ford
Customer Relations over
brake problems....but I will buy a Super Duty within
two years because I don't think I can get a better truck from anyone else.
Believe me, if I could punish Ford for the way they treated me, I would. But
I'm not going to punish myself by buying a lesser product just because I'm
annoyed with Ford. Just my .02, Butch Davis-

A friend of mine owns a 1996 Blazer that developed a peeling problem.
Chevy claimed acid spotting from bird droppings and wasn't their fault,
but he has taken good care of it and had it garaged much of the time.
After jumping through hoops with regional management, he got them to
repaint the truck. It began peeling again, but in huge sections.
According to the paint manufacturer's analysis, the dealer had not done
any prep work before painting. He is still going through arbitration to
get it corrected, about a year and a half later.

Audian,

I have the same model, but a '95. Mine has the AODE automatic, but trucks were
built (at least that year) with both the AODE and E4OD.

I bought mine new, and have the same shift characteristics. I have never towed
anything with it. I have 33K miles on it now, and the good news is that its
lousy shift quality hasn't degraded any.

I contacted the guy on "the drivetrain page", and he said there's nothing to be
done for the AODE in the way of a shift kit or "interceptor"-type product. He
said that he sees a lot of these (AODE) trans give up at around 40K miles.

I believe that he recommended the "Interceptor" for the E4OD trans, so if you're
lucky enough to have one, there's hope.

By the way, if you do have an AODE, they were fitted to Mustangs as well.
There's TONS of aftermarket stuff for Mustangs (including their AODE
transmissions). I would guess that if there's someone who can build an AODE to
take a Mustang through a 11 second quarter-mile, they ought to be able to make
one strong enough for a truck.

I'm driving mine 'till it smokes.

Subject: FTE 80-96 - RE: Used Deisel Turbo

After a little research including comments from this list, I am
considering putting a turbo unit on my '88 4x4 F-250 w/ the 7.3 Diesel
> (C6 and 4:10 gears). Question is, does anyone know about or have
experience with trying to pick up a late model Ford turbo unit from a
bone yard and installing on an older
engine (like mine)? Since the Ford
unit is essentially the same as the ATS aftermarket (with a few
restrictions, that I could update) can I pull one and install it on my
rig? What would I need to look for, watch out for etc -- is it really a
possibility? I'm obviously trying to save a few $$, but don't want to
jeadordize my truck in the process.

Subject: FTE 80-96 - Novice Female - New To Fords

Apologize in advance for a long post and easy (for all of you)
questions. Please feel free to post answers off-list if not appropriate
for everyone.

First of all, thanks to all for basic advice on my first post a month
ago. Let me tell you that I am new to this mechanical thing but I am
reading all your posts, looking up in the manual all the stuff you guys
talk about (about most of which I hadn't a clue), and learning about it
as I go. I have a 1980 F250 Custom,2WD, V8, 351M, 83K miles, 8.75R16.5
tires (8 lug), single cab, 8' bed, - seems that everything on this truck
is barebones original stock so I have been busy replacing everything I,
or my brother, could do without taking it into an expensive shop. So
far, it has all new hoses, belts, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap,
vaccuum hoses, radiator cleaned, thermostat, brakes, all filters, oil,
fuses and rebuilt carb. It is running so much better than when I got it
six months ago but I still feel a slight hesitation, like it's just
barely "missing" sometimes. And then, if running errands in town,
sometimes it won't start right away, have to turn it over several times
before it "catches" - starter sounds strong but engine just won't turn
over until about the 4th. or 5th. try. What do I look for next? Since I
have limited funds, I really need to investigate all cheap alternatives
before budgeting for any high $ jobs. Have I done everything I can do in
the home garage, considering my limited knowledge?

TIRES/WHEELS/SHOCKS:
I had said in my first post that I was considering going to 16" wheels
> as the
tires seemed to be more available in that size. Now, after having
checked the hundreds of ads( there are tons of tire/ wheel shops in
So.Cal) in the local papers, I'm confused! First of all, I definitely
want the widest, highest tires appropriate for my driving habits -
during a typical month: 50% street - 20 to 40 miles per day, 25% long
distance hwy - 600 to 1,000 miles, 25% desert and mountain dirt roads
(camping, fishing, rock & fossil hunting). What brands are good? What
price range is acceptable? What the heck does "load range" D (or any
other letter) mean? Is my truck considered a "Light Truck"? What about
all-terrain tires? Salesmen in ....
