They've had it since '80 (right?) right up until the new Super Duty style pickups (which are bad-ass IMHO), whatever model year they are. (99?) The only Ford with a solid front axle in '97 was the 350. Isn't this common knowledge?? (on a Ford truck list! :) > > So sue me... > > > PS Your last post was on Friday, I replied to it monday. Wow you got a poor attitude. Anyway, nobody sneaked into my garage last night and welded my my front-end into one solid axle. I think a truck of this side could benefit from a solid front axle, though. Apparently Ford thought so too, being as the 99 F250 SD has one. I was also talking (e-mailing) with some people, one of which has a 95 F250 4x4 PS. I don't know this first hand, admittedly, but he said his 95 is a twin I-beam as well. Does anyone on the list know how far back the Twin I-Beam suspension goes back for the 250 HD 4x4's? I'm curious now. I though maybe it was just a '97 thing. But apparently the F250HD's haven't had a solid front axle in a while. Chad Ryan Dorman wrote: > Check again. > > So sue me... > > > PS Your last post was on Friday, I replied to it monday. One of its design goals was better low temp performance. I knew a guy that was involved in the testing of Mobil 1 in Alaska. The tests were run on Plymouth V8s in the early 60s and he said that at the 40,000 mile tear down the hone marks were still visible on the cylinder walls. Agreed Mobil 1 is pricey, slightly less than $4.00/qt., but I double the factory change mileage when using it which balances out the higher cost. You will find those that disagree with me on the extended changes but it works for me. I presently have two gas engines with Mobil 1, one has 300k miles on it and the other 220k. Neither has had any internal engine repair. The 220k car needs no additional oil between 12k changes and the 300k car burns about 1 qt/2k. Both cars were purchased used at about 60k and switched to Mobil 1. If your truck does not burn oil at a rate that makes adding between changes overly expensive with Mobil 1 I recommend using it. The extended and stable viscosity range of synthetic will be an advantage in your severe weather. I don't use synthetic in my diesel. Mobil 1 is not rated to the level my Powerstroke requires and I don't think synthetic diesel oil will negate the effects of carbon build up in the oil so extended changes become questionable. Diesels are different than gas engines. I would probably buy the Ford version of the Suburban... But 1) I cannot afford new vehicle Fords prices 2) I have yet to see one. :( Don't get me wrong.... If it was just me and not the bunch of us.... I would be sticking with my F250. :) But I need the room for the family. Michael > -----Original Message----- > From: Christian J. Yo Ryan, Chad, et al: >From 1980 to 1997, all F250 4x4s were equipped w/ the TTB front end, both standard and HD models, regular cab, Supercab, and even the 96-97 crew cabs. The only Ford 4x4 trucks factory-equipped w/ a live axle front suspension after 1980 were F350s from 1986 to 1997 model years. The only front suspension option available from the factory from 1992 to 1997 was the "heavy duty" spring set (included in some Snow Plow option packages) for both TTB F250s and live axle F350s with regular cab. The "heavy duty" front suspension option was not available w/ Supercab or crew cab trucks. The "heavy duty" suspension option increased the front axle weight rating by 500 lbs, for both TTB and live axle, and it was separate from the vehicle's overall HD weight rating. That is, you could get an F250 HD (or F350) regular cab w/out the "heavy duty" front suspension. If you have seen any late model F250 before the 1999 Super Duty w/ a live axle front end, it was a conversion, not a factory option (or it may just be some wise guy w/ an F250 badge on an F350!). All of the new 1999 Super Duty 4x4 trucks, F250-up, are equipped w/ live axle front suspensions. Dave R.
