Having said that, please let me add my $.02 on the subject. If you are going to keep your Ford truck long term be sure to change the brake fluid and hoses periodically. When the hoses become old they can become soft and collapse after braking which causes them to act like a check valve and causes the calipers to fail to release completely. This can be a serious and dangerous problem which, I assure you, you don't want. I recommend 5 years on the hoses. Mine failed at 7 years but I'm a low mileage driver. The interval on fluid changes I will leave to others to comment on, but if you are changing the hoses you may as well change the fluid at the same time. Good luck with those brake problems. I just had one replaced. The oil didn't leak outside enough to cover the inside of the tire but inside the brake drum it got into the brake lining. When that happens you will know because that brake will grab pretty good giving you a pull to that side. The heat from braking will tend to bake the stuff onto the drum braking surface causing a pulsing type action. Had to have it cleaned off by turning the drums, not for the metal but just enough to get the crud off and make it round again. Someone mentioned the rear transmission seal, this sounds like a possibility. If engine oil was leaking it will be all over everything including back up the tailgate. good hunting J = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 80-96-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 80-96-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 May 1998 09:51:41 -0700 From: "Mike" Subject: Re: FTE 80-96 - Re: ....
