To register my '91 Flare Side, it costs me $21.50 and then a mandatory state inspection, which is $5. WOW, $1199.00 !!! Well, there goes your tax return every year. = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 80-96-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 80-96-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 May 1998 17:00:43 -0700 From: "Gerald L. Hinkle Jr. CPA" Subject: FTE 80-96 - F-350 Monobeam Front End Question I have experienced a popping noise when turning the steering wheel of my 94 F-350 4x4, 4door pickup. The guy at the front end shop did not replace the tie rods as I instructed telling me they were in good shape and after fresh grease the noise was gone. After a while it returns however, dramatically when stopped and turning the wheel one way then the other. The tie rods seem rather loose, or maybe best expressed as allowing rather free motion back and forth by using one hand. Again fresh grease solves the problem for 30 days or less. I am thinking maybe the grease is hiding the noise and therefore the overall problem. Can anyone relate to this problem? Any advice? Changing the rods out is quite expensive since only one end has the removable tie rod end, the others are a full shaft. Thanks for any help you guys can provide! The roll is quite excessive without them on there. I think as long as I take my time and drive a little more cautiously I can go just as far into the woods as the other guys. (only been stuck once, and going slow would have prevented that) The next question is how do you change the two big bushings up front? Where can I get the little bushings (other than the dealer unless I have too) The guys at NAPA can't find them in their catolog, (they do have other sizes, but not the size I have.) Thanks Casey = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 80-96-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 80-96-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 May 1998 20:17:47 -0500 From: "Jram" Subject: FTE 80-96 - Re: sway bars - locking hubs Group, As far as the sway bars go, I have an '81 F-150 4x4 with no sway bars in the front or rear. It is raised about 2" front and rear with 33x12.5x15 tires. I drive it to work 28 miles one way about twice a week. The route is over back country roads with potholes and some are just dirt and about 10 miles of freeway with a 70mph speed limit then some in town stop and go traffic. I have never felt unsafe at any speed even when turning. I dont feel the need for sway bars on my vehicle. wouldn't want them anyway because a lot of times we load up at lunch or after work and go off road near work. I guess it is just personal preference. For those that feel the need for swaybars, there are aftermarket companies that make quick disconnects. They come with the connectors and the retainer to hold them up out of the way when disconnected. They are cheap. I have seen them on many webpages of 4x4 retailers. As far as the manual or locking hubs, the autos always seem to not work when you need them to. I just lock my manuals if think there might be a need. Then if I do need them I engage the transfer case and I know for sure that I have 4 wheel drive. The only drawback is that I dont like to go over 55mph because the transfer case and differential are wound up and make a lot of noise. So I am late to work! Once again! Later. Now that I've got the diesel,460 debate running strong {sorry :)} on it's own I think I'll move on to something else.I have a 96 F250 EC 4X4 with a 460 E4OD and captains chairs. I'm real interested in installing one of those great looking B&M light truck megashifters.Problem is they don't make one for the E4 but do for the AOD. I think I can overcome this with some....
