I drive mine on the logging roads here also in SW Washington; especially during Deer/Elk season, but all year long for recreational purposes. My pickup is my vehicle of choice for this activity due to the increased ground clearance and limited-slip rear differential.Besides that,I don't want to scratch up the Bronco;at least til the SOBs paid for:-) Randy 94Bronco EB-5.8 85 F-250 4x4-460 http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.thewowfactor.com/bigbroncos/detail.htm?detailid=47 = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 80-96-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 80-96-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 May 1998 08:58:35 -0400 From: Chad Royse Subject: Re: FTE 80-96 - Diesel vs. 460 That's not 100% fair though. If you want a chip that works, you need to have one burnt custom for your setup. The Mustang and truck motors are too different, cam, intake, and I'm sure the computer, to put in a chip designed for a Mustang. >Also my EGR valve is going out and I wonder would this effect my mileage >greatly and any power loss?? I'm going to be using the old heads off my Mustang (more porting and bigger valves), and maybe the Stang's cam. FMS is supposed to be coming out with a $1200 347 kit - at least that's what I've been told. You'll also want to do a MAS conversion, or get a chip burnt for the speed density for your exact combo. Also make sure to get the good (not paper) header gaskets. I just went through this w/my car - and you're not going to want to change those things every other week. >Anyone done anything like this?? This would be my first >engine build and want it PERFECT with decent gas mileage while cruising >and SUPER performance to blow away those pesky chevys and beat me. The combo I'm talking about will give me at or near 300hp with excellent torque. Mine is going to become a tow/second vehicle so pulling power matters to me, not MPG. I was originally going to do a 351W swap, but it'll end up nickle and diming me to death, and a 347 will be enough power. These trucks are heavy, so you want to make sure you're going with a cam that'll have more a torquier profile than a hp profile. Or go with much quicker gears. In the meantime, you can do the gears. The 3.5Xs are a good choice. Then I'd do a MAS or the exhaust (then the other). Next do the intake. Options here are a Saleen/Vortech upper (I think they're designed for the truck lowers - and if it's true, my route), extrude hone the stock, Edelbrock, Holley, or a GT-40 or Cobra. -Vic www.webdigs.com = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 80-96-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 80-96-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 May 1998 11:55:15 -0400 From: "Stephen Barclay" Subject: RE: FTE 80-96 - Diesel vs. 460 I just looked over the 97 Towing Guide and the 460 is not rated higher in any of the categories but it dose however rate the same, GCWR that is, as the PowerStroke equally equipped with a 4.10 rear end. I purchased a '97 F250HD with the 351 last December and I have monitored the gas mileage very closely, pitiful if you as me, range is from 7.5 (Snow Plowing) to 11.8 (Highway). The average is somewhere about 11 mpg. I have test drove one of the new '99 PowerStroke trucks and was very impressed. The next one will definitely be a diesel. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-80-96-list [mailto:owner-80-96-list Sent: Monday, May 18, 1998 8:59 AM To: 80-96-list Subject: Re: FTE 80-96 - Diesel vs. 460 That's not 100% fair though. One member came from New Zealand! That's dedication! - - Many photos taken! These will show up on the web site to arouse a sense of jealousy (heh heh) in those who didn't attend. This should increase the attendence next year! I took pictures that represent every list catagory. - - In the "I've died and gone to heaven" catagory: 427 SOHC, very rare, beautiful sound (and very loud, you could hear it for a mile). brrammmmm, brammmmmmm, brapppppp, brammm...... waaaaaa hoooooo! - - Group photo was taken Saturday around 11. Most members where in it. This will appear on the web site. - - A new sense of direction, many of us sat down and talked about the future of FTE. Expect us to be an "official club" soon (lists will always be free). The future looks good. - - I think those who attended will agree that it brought a real sense of unity to our group. - - Pat Ford, the show organizer, treated us extremely well. We had a booth, inside (A/C!), right inside the front door. We had the best location in the entire show. To those who have Pat's number, please call him and thank him! - - 350+ brochures given out! - - Universal agreement from 61-79 list members who attended that Deacon will be at next year's show, even if we have to tie him to the wing of a plane! Deacon's presence was sorely missed! - - Interest from vendors in sponsoring us. - - We received an award for club participation! Hopefully this is the first of many! I'm going to scan it in and put it on the web site. Although it will hang on my wall.... we all deserve it! - - We really are a first class group, it was really nice that many of you were able to contribute to the "thank Pat Ford" fund. We had a really nice engraved glass plaque made for Pat, using the 20th F100 Supernationals t-shirt design for it with "From Ford Truck Enthusiasts" on the bottom. - - Many friendships solidified. The best part, to me, was being able to finally meet so many of my friends for the first time. A special thanks to those list members who've been lurkers who read and are learning but hasn't been active posters. It's its nice to know that you like us enough to travel to meet everyone. - - Parts, parts, parts.... and, you guess it, more parts. - - Again, Deacon, you had to be there! I made sure I took many photos of 73-79 trucks to give you a good reason to be there next year! - - I think we made a great impression with Pat Ford and let the world know how nice our members are! Has to do with the amount of air getting into the cylinders for the engine to generate power. Put a turbo on that 460 and under the same circumstances it will smoke the PSD. At sea level they're more fairly compared (unless of course most of your driving is indeed in the mountains). No flames please, I love both engines myself. Just giving my 2 cents. One comment I'll throw your way, though, is regarding the F350 vs. F250 Crew Cab configurations. IF you ever think you might pull a fifth wheel, BUY THE 350!!! The F250 CC takes length out of the bed, and you'll lose much of the benefit of having a 5th wheel if you pull it with a short-bed. The hitch has to be set back a bit (vs. right over the wheels in a long bed), and you CAN hit the cab of the truck with the trailer pretty easily if you're not paying close attention [on my 350, I'm past 90 degrees when it gets close - sounds crazy, but if you get stuck you can unhitch, crawl the truck out, and then hitch up as sharp as 90 degrees to snatch the trailer out]. A buddy of mine bought the 250 for the convenience around town, but was NOT happy when he hitched up the 5W! Rick At 14:30 5/14/98 -0700, you wrote: >Hi all, this is my first post to the list. They have an accessory for seatbelts used on child safety seats. What you'll get is a pair of "buckles," which takes care of two shoulder belts. Once "installed" (just hook 'em on!) you can adjust the belt with some slack in it and limit it's ability to cinch down. They'll work down every once in awhile so you'll need to slide them back where you want 'em. The down side (there's ALWAYS a down side) is that your belts will no longer retract out of the way when you exit the vehicle - a minor inconvenience in my book considering the benefit. rh - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Richard R.
