Everyone would bring their own stuff, perhaps stop at McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts. Gary Bowling, one of the 61-79 list members, may be able to get us a pavillion on Sunday morning. If we can get enough people interested (10+) then we'll do it. How does a 9:00am get-together sound? Cassetty" Subject: FTE 80-96 - 5.0HO for sale Well, I haven't had time to swap in my 5.0, so I'm going to sell it. (I could use the $$, anyway.) It's a 302 from an 89 Mustang, 34,000 miles. It was pulled a few years back in favor of a stroker. The motor has been stored in a climate-controlled garage since, and has been turned 1/4 turn once a week to prevent weak valve springs. It is complete (MAF, TB, etc) except for a distributor, main harness, and computer. $1100. Any takers? Erwin" Subject: FTE 80-96 - basic questions I apologize for my lack of knowledge concerning my truck, but I don't have any documentation on it and have never much paid any attention to them. Like I admitted in my first post, I've not ever considered myself a "truck" guy, put every time I drive it, I like it more and more. This is where my lack of knowledge comes in with trucks, although I know a good bit more than average about the 5.0 Stangs. The truck's a 90 F-150 long bed standard cab, 302 EFI and AOD, all dreadfully stock. Questions are: Which AOD do I have? What where the factory available gears? What's the hp and torque rating? Thanks. I do eventually plan to buy a Helms for it. Future plans are: FMS springs and shackles good shocks > MAS conversion 347 stroker (built for torque, not hp) LS differential a little quicker gearing rebuilt tranny w/shift kit and good converter nice sterio and I've got to do something about those pawpaw whitewalls :^) Thanks again for any info -Vic www.webdigs.com = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 80-96-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 80-96-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 May 1998 09:38:53 -0500 From: Sean Winters Subject: RE: FTE 80-96 - paint Hey Blaine, You are best to go with a air powered DA sander if you own a compressor. If not a electric jitterbug sander will suffice for stripping but it will leave surface scratches that will need to be removed by hand sanding. Start with about 80 grit to remove the rust and old paint. Once you have it cleared, correct any imperfections in the metal and then sand with 150 then 200 grit. Use compressed air and plain water to remove the dust then immediately dry it. Follow that up with a primer coat. Provided you have access to a compressor, use a good lacquer based etching primer to seal the metal; it sands wonderfully. Much better than most of the compressed can stuff. Wet sand with 400 grit then prime it again. You're ready to rock. My son and I did this about a month ago. Pulled the hood off the truck and set it on saw horses in the garage...MUCH easier that way. I'm putting the color on this weekend. Wish me luck! If there are any paint/body people on the list, please show yourself!!! I have some questions of my own. Last summer I had the compressor, dryer, expansion valve and associated hoses replaced, and the system recharged. Seemed to work well through December until it cooled down a little. The truck stayed parked for 8 weeks in March & April while recovering from back surgery, now I can not get the air cold in the cab. Last summer frost would form on the hoses near where the lines entered the cab going to the evaporator, now those lines are barely cool. Also the lines out of the compressor and into the condenser (in front of the radiator) are very hot to the touch. When I first start the truck and turn on the A/C the compressor short-cycles going on for about 10 seconds and then off for about 10 seconds. It keeps this cycling for about 5 minutes, and then the compressor seems to run continuously. Did I lose my freon charge while the truck was idle? Do these symptoms mean anything to those A/C experts on the list? I don't mind taking the truck to the shop to be repaired, I just don't want to be stuck with a bill for a lot of work that may not need to be done. If I could focus the work my wallet will feel better. Hope someone can assist, thanks. = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 80-96-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 80-96-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 May 1998 16:49:25 -0400 From: "Bruce A. Ramirez" Subject: Re: FTE 80-96 - A/C problems Hi Michael, First, if the hoses are freezing-up to the evaporator, then the system was most likely undercharged. Second, I always run the compressor for a short time each week to keep all the seals well lubricates. this will help prevent leaks. Third, Short cycling is caused by a serious undercharge. It sounds like your system is low again. Have a qualified technician evacuate your system and have him pull a vacuum down to 29 inches of mercury for no less than 45 minutes, then let the system sit for 20 minutes. If the needle on the vacuum gauge doesn't move during the 20 minute period, then your system is tight and you won't have any leaks.....
