I changed my 93 F250 to Amsoil 70k miles. For the first 5k miles, I thought
I was gonna die! No leaks visible, but sucked a qt. every 3 - 400 miles. At
these prices, was starting to hurt. Truck never used oil b4, so I have no
explanation. Finally, it settled down and now uses a qt. every 1.5k miles or
so. Have noticed a marked improvement in fuel economy, and it runs cooler now
with the Amsoil. We have a small fleet of trucks, and have now converted all
of them to Amsoil. So far, we love it. The extended oil change intervals are
great.
One of the reasons I switched all our trucks was that a couple years ago I
started overseeing the fleet. I decided to review the maintenance records of
our three shops, and discovered one shop had less engine problems than the
other two. The only difference I was able to see was the synthetic oil. So, we
are now about a year and a half into the experiment, and so far, sold!

my .02, your mileage may vary......

What do you think about Dynomax mufflers?
My truck has a 400 in it,and has glass-pak mufflers.
What are the down side to them. Cost is a real concern since it is dual
exhaust,
but i really want a good sound.
Thanks for your help, Blaine in KY.

I'm curious, at the price of Amsoil, how much are you coming ahead
or falling behind with the milage increase. Perhaps the reason your
milage has gone up is because you're using Amsoil has extra fuel!

What about using Model 1 with an extended change interval?

I couldn't agree more... I've got a '90 F250 and it looks like a solid
truck rather than the squishy jelly bean lookin imitations they're
pumpin out now :^)

Hi Folks,

I've been on this list for a while now. I have a question about
another of my toys. My 1972 Starcraft motorhome on a Dodge Chassis with t=
he
413 truck motor.(Sorry Ford wasn't building M-home stuff back then) I wan=
t
to improve the exhaust efficiency and am familier with the basics of that=
=2E
What I don't quite get is the best way to route a single exhaust to avoid=

fumes entering the windows. Now this thing is like a brick aerodynamicly =
so
it creates some strange air patterns around it. Also limiting it is the
available choices underneath what with the various tanks and plumbing etc=
=2E
What I think I'd like to do is have it exit in front of the right rear
wheel. This would provide a shorter exhaust and what I hope would be enou=
gh
of a disturbance air-wise to disipate the fumes. Anybody got any BTDT's?
All help much appreciated.

I'm looking to put a set of nerf bars on my 97 4X4 Powerstroke Supercab.
It is deep blue with white down the middle.
I was thinking of maybe Smittybilt sure steps in black for $170.00.
I have seen some Westins' in black that look OK. Anyone have any
recommendations or photos? I don't want anything that sticks way out
from the truck or that hangs very low, just something that gives good
sidebody protection and a bit of a step for passengers!

Thanks,
Bret

Randy & Sven:

Another resource that you may want to try (thanks to Rick for this one)
is contacting Ford Customer Service at 800-392-3673. Have your VIN handy
and they can check/verify the model and major components originally
shipped on your truck. I tried this to confirm a couple of things, the
rep told me that he didn't have the information available in front of
him (my truck is an '88) but that someone from their research department
would call we next week -- I'll let you know what they come up with when
they call.

Yo Sven:

Our references seem to disagree. According to my books, 1976 was the last
year the F100 was available with 4x4. After that, the F150 was the
lightest F-series w/ 4x4 available. The F100 was discontinued altogether
in 1983.

My 1980 Ford service books show no F100 4x4 option available. Even the
factory books are occasionally wrong about the details of configurations,
since things can get out of hand on the assembly line, or the books are
sometimes written before the engineers actually figured out what to do, but
other books corroborate the 1976 ending of the F100 4x4 option, at least in
the US.

It is possible, I suppose, that F100's were available w/ 4x4 in Canada or
elsewhere?
