I used to have a 1990 F-150 4x4 with dual tanks that had the exact same
problem with the front tank. It was the in-tank fuel pump. I think it
cost about $260.

Hey Guys -- Just a Public Thanks for all the help!! It's nice to know
there is somewhere to get some straight answers from others who have
also 'been there, tried that'. I think I finally have handle on what I'm
driving around on -- now comes the tweak-it, change-it, modify-it, fun
part. Let the tinkering begin, phase one: new suspension.

Check out Gear Vendors they are the industry leader in over/under drive
units for RVs and trucks, they've won many industry awards for best and
innovative designs and applications. A bit on the spendy side but I
believe worth the cost, especially given the alternatives. Here are a
couple of sites to reference: http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.gearvendors.com
http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.ericsrv.com/Gear%20Vendors.htm (an RV site that lists the
full GV application list). Adding this unit effectively give you 6
speeds instead of 3 thus smoothing out the typically hard shifts of the
C-6 as if bridges the gaps between gears. The unit can also be turned
off and on depending on the driving situation.

I am planning on adding their unit to my Truck ('88 F-250 4x4 Supercab,
7.3 ltr. Diesel w/ C-6 tranny and 4:10 gears) as soon as I save up few
$, hopefully with in the next couple of months.

I'd also love to hear from anyone who might have any experience with =
the
GV product in a 4x4 application.

Note to all list members:
- -------------------------
If you had trouble in the past posting messages and we corrected
it by adding a second email address set to "nomail" for you then
you will have problems posting. "Nomail" is not a valid option
with the new server. If you receive an email stating "non-member
submission", you're going to have to find out what your exact
email address is (bob email.msn.com as opposed to bob msn.com),
uns*bscribe your existing address and s*bscribe your exact address.

I'm planning on modifying the Perl source code to the Majordomo
list server to add "nomail" and several other features. This may
take a while.

Note to digest list members:
- ----------------------------
a. One minor table of contents bug has been found and should be
corrected soon.

b. Digests are not generated on a daily basis. Digests are generated
after 40k of messages are built up. I am adding a timed job on
the server to generate digests around 4:00 am (EST). This is a good
time since the server isn't very busy then.

Hang in there, the ride is rough but the destination is worth it.

Subject: FTE 80-96 - Engine Change

I am toying with the idea of changing my engine to a V8. right now I have a
fairly new 300 I-6 that is in dire need of a valve job, and a new carb. I use
the truck mostly for a daily drive, no hauling of major loads, but I do pull a
trailer sometimes. And I would like to have a motor witht he power to pass on
the highway. My truck is modified with a lift, 35" tires, and 3.50 rear end.
My questions are....

Would your reccomend leaveing the 6 and just fixing it up? If so are there any
after market parts worth putting on?

If I was to go with a V8 which one?

Biggest problem is that is has to be California Smog legal. (so must be
orionally available on the truck at time of sale.)

thanks
Dom

Oh, I just meant to undo the case from behind the dash and look at the core
w/o moving or undoing the hoses, but looking closer, there is a nice bead of
something black like silicon around the edge. If I take it off, what should
I use to reseal with? I will try that suggestion of looking for the vents....
