I will let you know what I find out. Probably want to give it a month or two so it can be planned and you can get some firm commitments to show up. We had a few people on the 61-79 list who were supposed to meet up about a month ago and only 1 person (I think) showed up. My next question is: I know that the radiator and hoses, along with the hoses to the core, do not leak, so is it possible to remove the casing around the heater core without disconnecting the two hoses, to see if there is evidence of a leak in there? (without draining all the coolant out of the system) The only thing that appears in the way is the crank to turn the temperature door, and the fact that the tubes ends are at 90 degrees and would probably stop the case from coming completely out of the way. Should I take the time to take off the case, or look around for somebody who has a tester I can borrow? If the core is bad, how much am I looking at to replace it? It's time to be looking forward to cranking up our Diesels and hitting the open road. Spring is also the time to be thinking about cooling system maintenance, so lets talk a little about that. If you're planning to change your antifreeze and flush your cooling system, be sure to use a proper mixture of coolant and don't forget to add a couple of pints of FW-15 additive, or its equivalent. The additive prevents "cavitation," the pitting and possible subsequent leaking of coolant into the cylinders. Another concern is the thermostat. The Navistar engine uses a poppet type thermostat that is similar to aftermarket units. However, using an aftermarket unit that does not meet the Ford or Navistar spec can cause overheating problems. Most thermostats have some sort of bypass built.... To access the rest of this feature you must be a logged in Registered User Of Ford Truck Enthusiasts
