Merry Christmas ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "LaGrone, John" <John.LaGrone Subject: Happy Holidays Date: Sun, 24 Dec 2000 14:17:33 -0600 I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday. I have been on vacation for the last week and have a week to go. My son had Road Runner cable modem access installed at the house (it is f-a-s-t) and bought new HP computer. I have been on digest mode. It has been exciting. December 12: On the way home from a late doctor's appointment when I couldn't drive, we were caught in the ice storm you may have read about. Less than three feet from being across the last overpass from home, my wife lost control and creamed our Towncar into the back of an 80s Ford pickup. Luckily no one was injured. Week of Dec. 15: I have replaced the left front fender, hood, radiator support, and grille header. I haven't found a fender extension and parking light for the left corner yet. Henry is the only thing we own that will go down the road. Dec 20: Henry has oil running down the driveway this morning. Rear wheel cylinder has blown. I go get the parts and rebuild them. Dec 21: Two miles from the house on the way to the grocery store, the brake warning light comes on. I conclude that the master cylinder has also gone bad. Two master cylenders and six hours later I conclude that the proportioning valve has finally given up any semblance of functioning. 30 minutes before the Ford dealer closes, I order a new proportioning valve to the tune of $120 and a week's wait. Henry is still sitting in the driveway. Dec. 22: I finish putting the Towncar back together enough so that it will go down the road. It goes to the get the front end aligned on Tuesday. Dec 23: For the first time in over two weeks, I haven't touched a wrench or a screw driver. They say we may have another round of ice tomorrow. May God bless each and everyone one of you. --John LaGrone john.lagrone jlagrone ------------------------------ From: "bballlauer1" <bballlauer1 Subject: Re: Happy Holidays Date: Sun, 24 Dec 2000 14:20:13 -0600 Saw your post on the list. We're in Sherman, so I expect we'll be seeing what you are ,as far as weather is concerned. My '65 f-100 is purring along fine. I have a 302 in it and power steering from a '78 ford with a c-4 transmission. It works great, except I still have the push hard and hope you stop brakes. Happy Holidays! We're enjoying the snow this year, kinda reminds me of the old days :-) Be good, stay out of trouble but have fun.... -- Happily Retired (but broke) 78 Bronco Loving, Michigan Pot Hole Jumping, Gary -- Less than three feet from being across the last overpass from home, my wife lost control and creamed our Towncar into the back of an 80s Ford pickup. Date: Sun, 24 Dec 2000 09:19:36 -0700 Well, I'm going out into my rather cold barn (its zero out right now) to see if I can get my truck started. I'm hoping it's just flooded but I have never seen one that refused to dry out after a few days. Maybe the plugs are fouled......we'll know soon enough because I'm taking them all out and blasting them to make sure (they are brand new). I just hope it isn't a slipped timing chain (that's the way it acts, but the same symptoms sometimes occure with a flooded engine as well) Here's hoping :-) This situation brought me to a new idea for a project. I think I'm going to go to the expense of having two mounts for the plow on two different trucks.........just to be safe. Now all I have to do is find another power unit and mount to fit the bronco (FTE content :-))) Anyone ever try putting a vac line to the manifold into the dash so you can spray start fluid from the cab? I tried it but I think the hose is too long and twisty. I think a shorter straigh line would actually work, maybe 3/8 brake line would be a good choice. That's on my list too.........:-)) -- Happily Retired (but broke) 78 Bronco Loving, Michigan Pot Hole Jumping, Gary -- ------------------------------ From: "Shelley Batty" <shelba Subject: Re: Working on Christmas........ Date: Mon, 25 Dec 2000 07:55:14 -0800 Place used to work we had lines running from the cab the the air cleaner on all our rigs for just this purpose. After you spray the starting fluid down the tube, you have to blow on the tube to send the fluid down the line. Worked great for us, in temperatures like you are describing. When it's that cold over here in NY you can foul the plugs real easy some times you can take them out and blast them with a propane torch to dry them out and warm them a little. If you don't have a torch and the missus don't mind the oven also works fine. ------------------------------ From: "John Webster" <jwebster Subject: Merry Christmas Date: Mon, 25 Dec 2000 12:02:09 -0500 A very Merry Christmas to one and all. Ladies and Gentleman, were are ever so close to havin the ole girl up and rollin again. I have high hopes that Tweety and I will be tearin up the Nevada desert by no later than March. I can't wait! You have no idea how hard it has been to have setback after setback with that poor truck, especially when its your daily driver (we'll I take that back, Ive read quite a few stories about the money pit:) )With the motor paid for and already partially assembled, I only need to dig up the bare essentials. Motor mounts, gasket set, steering box rebuild, and front suspension rubber. Depending on whether or not I find a deal, I would like to swap to an aluminum manifold, but will not hesitate to run what I have. Oh Man oh Man oh Man!!!!! Im so stoked, I swear I cant put it into words. Hope yall are lookin forward to some more good stories, cuz Tweeties comin back, and shes gonna be better than ever. I might make the grand canyon jump yet!
