They conform to the not-so-flat surafce of the firewall at that point rather nicely. Regular nuts, lacking the concave shape of those cheezey units, won't hold quite as well and may carve up the body a bit. They lasted this long, didn't they? If you have to replace them, try to find the self-lockers that look like they have a concave lockwasher welded to the bottom of them (not Nylocks) since they'll have a similar contact patch. I wasn't the origional person to put the power steering on the truck but I will be the one to do it right. You have a 66 so things should be a little ezier for you. What you could do is look for a 77-79 F150 4x4 and grab the pump, mounting hardware and steering gear for the transplant. Mine uses (right now) a mix match of parts such as a Chevy steering gear. I am planning on changing out the entire front end with 77 parts, coil springs and the works. Does the steering box on your truck mount on the inside or outside of the frame rails? If it is on the inside you could use a power steering box out of a 2x4 and make up some custom mounting brackets but it should be close. Dan It sounds like a good project truck, no rust is a good start. You say it's not put together, if it's a rolling frame a couple of hundred dollars is about all its worth, maybe more for the 429 motor. If it's mostly assembled and just needs finishing a couple of thousand should be enough. As far as storing it a garage will be necessary if you ever intend to complete it. You could rent storage space in one of those storage facilities, but they are expensive. How about where campers are stored for winter? I don't know what they charge, but you will need a cover outdoors. Don't Do it!!!!! Most fuel systems are not intended to live with alcohol. The rubber parts will be harmed!!! Alcohol has less BTUs then gasoline and over the counter isopropyl ( rubbing )alcohol is mostly water ( If I am remembering correctly ) The way people make big HP is because the right alcohol ( cant remember if it is methanol or ethanol )has a very high octane and they bump the compression up to get gasoline like performance or better! also the fuel systems are designed for it. Look at the gas pump stickers next time your out. The ones in California even state that older cars may develop fuel leaks and fires by using the gas of today which has alcohol ao an alcohol like substance in it. I may not have all of my info 100% correct but every thing I know or think I know says DON'T DO IT!!!!! Back in the mid 80s there were devices to spray water into the carb to help reduce pinging and some people said use isopropyl alcohol instead but that is different then putting it in the fuel tank.
