It had a stock front sway bar. ( only 1/2 to 3/4" dia ) I didn't have any handling problems. Watch the tie rod to front of oil pan clearance and make sure that the new engine cover sides are as wide as you can for "work on it later" clearance. Stock worn-out front springs worked ok but the body to frame clearance was only 2" or so with the 289 ( 351W weighs more ) Also watch out for the throttle cable in the full open position I installed mine incorrectly and got it stuck in the wide open position.( one wild ride once I was tossed to the passenger seat and finished the ride in the rear end of a parked car!!!!!!!! ) Good Luck! You should be fine, unless you found that the 400 was winding out while driving down the highway. The rpm of the convertor, if I'm not mistaken, determines the fluid pressure produced, doesn't it. the engine's power dictates how quickly and/or easily the engine builds up the necessary fluid pressure and keeps it there. So according to my theory (and I have been known to be wrong before) your 460 will make the same rpm as the 400 did to create the same motive power, but will create it faster. Right? marko in vancouver ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Jan 1998 16:15:14 -0800 From: marko Subject: Re: RE JMs 427 Flywheel >Hey JM, go ahead and get a 360 flywheel out of the millions of trucks out >there. Do you think the boys at ford's engine design shop were just like kids in a candy store? i mean, they started with the (well I know the 330 but lets' ignore that one) 352, then they bored it (360), then they stroked it (390), then they stroked it some more (410), then they bored it again (428). If ya want i could make some copies of mine and snail mail them to ya. This eather makes it easier or harder depending on if you can figure out how I made them, although I made them so I can figure it out when my 351M finally makes it back into my truck so you shouldn't have too many problems. They're easier to understand than most book diagrams thats why i made them. Send me your snail adress if ya want me to send them. Apparently line pressure is one variable, with a few offering full line pressure for racing applications (TCI and B&M) by what is included or left out in the assembly. Do they all offer about the same performance with the same pressures and other variables they alter from stock, or are there individual differences that would make one a better choice over the others in moving a 3/4 ton pickup? Basically I've got the motor and tranny bolted together and sitting in place. Not even bolted down yet...and there's no plumbing or wiring hooked up yet so I've still got quite a project ahead of me.
