Good work, pretty much what I suspected....

I'm looking for a 78-79 Bronco now. Anyone have a spare set of front shock
mounts (upper and lower) for the dual shock setup from the 78-79 Bronco laying
around? How about a swaybar?

Whats cool about the update is that just about EVERYTHING from the 78-79 year
bolts right into the 69. Looks like the only holes to be drilled will be for
the rear shock mounts on the frame which are currently on the spring tower...

Yes you have a 3:1 gear ratio!

My guess is that 255/60/15 is about a 26 to 28 inch diameter tire, 3:1 sounds
good to me. It all depends what and how you intend to use your truck.

Right now I have a 460, C6 auto, 3.54 rear gears, and 33 inch dia. tires and
below are my numbers, I had a lot more get-up-and-go when I had 30 inch rear
tires. I was going to change to 3.73 rear gears when the rear was rebuilt but
the shop goofed and put 3.52 back in. ( I did not catch the error till it was
too late :( )

for relative comparison only actual RPM may be different. Slip in the trans.

As you can see tire dia. makes a big difference.

Hey Dana...Thanks for the info. I'm just building a toy !! I'm looking
to be able to have a "sleeper". I want to be able to have the kids in
their 5.0's read only my rear license plate !! And have the power to
overcome most challengers !! Ha Ha ...sounds like about 20 years ago
when I was in high school !!

Well then you probably already know what gear to use! ( 3.73 or 4.10 should spin
the tires quit well! )

Get some traction bars or other traction device, I get alot of wheel hop.

I got that 460, and it appears to be in excellent condition. Before I bolt
it in, I need an overdrive tranny. This engine will be a daily driver, so
mileage is a definite consideration. I've always rowed my own gears and
never liked automatics until I got a C-6, so auto or manual--it doesn't
matter. What I am looking for is a tranny with an overdrive so my rear end
gears will not play such a critical role in getting the highway RPM's down
to the point where it hurts acceleration from a standstill. I've had good
results from an E4OD, and the wide ratio gear set is always an option. The
only problem is the computer box to get her to shift to the top. As far as
manuals, this appears to be the way to go. What five speed will bolt to a
'69 460? A six speed would be killer--to the wallet, even from a boneyard
if I can find one. I appreciate any ideas.

Subject: 429 in a Marquis

I have just been offered a 79 Marquis with a 429 and (I assume) a C6
tranny. It seems to run and certainly has plenty of power. I happen to
have a '62 F100 that needs an engine and tranny. It last had a GM something
or other in it, so it looks like motor mounts, etc will be needed. Oh
yeah, Levi (see http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://home.att.net/~dlpearson/levi.htm) has offered it to
me for $300, car and all, if I want it. Is this a reasonable deal? This
guy sold me my '62 Unibody, which I have loved since I got it, so I believe
he's no crook--and he's my neighbor. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hey Ken and folks on the list.

Well, today it rained and it was cold, but a friend of mine and I layed
out under the truck outside (real diehard's here) and put the
NP435/ATA435 back into the truck. Lucky for us he brought his big floor
jack. We did get soaked and cold before it was over, but that one big
heavy job done and out of the way.

We found out that the 302 w/ a standard transmission has on special
plate that goes from the bell housing on the driver's side to the clutch
pedal "equalizer bar." The book I am using says "only 302" for this
configuration, so there is another way to ID the 302, but from
underneath the truck.

All, I got to do now is finish up the brake lines and put the drive
shafts back in. Of course I have to do the field alignment on the front
end too. However, I am lucky in that across from the entrance to our
neighborhood is a Cooper Tire Store. As soon as I get it field aligned
I am heading straight there to have them finish up the alignment.

I just can't wait to drive it!

build? I wouldn't mind getting one to play with paint schemes on before
I take my real one in for painting.

Also, since color of engines blocks has been coming up lately...what
color was the 302 block in the '65 F-100?
