That being said I found a book I thought I'd lost: "Fearsome Fords:
1959-73" It shows a 390 in a T-Bird beginning in '61. Before that was a 3=

HP 352 and a 350 HP 430. It only shows stats for 1959-63 but it has a few=

pix in it. '61-'63 shows only a 390 with either 4V or Tri-power. =

If you really get stuck I can help you out with either a description of
pics/model years or let me know & I can scan some in Friday or this
weekend. =

Also, I think the lens covers for the taillights can tell you the year.
Look for the last # after the SAE #. For instance my '67 truck has SAE =

- -TSIB67TK. You can at least narrow it down a bit. =

The car itself was in beautiful shape there was not a spot of rust on
the body although the wheelwells showed a different color indicating a
paint job at some point. The interior was also very cool. This is a
very cool car. Leather interior and lots of chrome. The back seats
were developing mold but it doesn't look like it wouldn't come right off
with a rag. The drivers seat was awful worn, other than that the
interior was beautiful. But anyways, (sorry, I'm awful excited) the
door tag revealed the following numbers, I wounder if someone could
decipher them for me to tell me more about the car.

Top line (VIN)- 7Y82Z175262

Bottom Line- 65B (Year?) B 2AA 20F 27 I (or 1?(Axle Code?)) U
(Tranny code?)

I would appreciate any codes you could decipher, This motor may still
make it into my truck.

Additional info if anyone cares, its got air and its a ragtop! The
plates were last registered in '92 but the door panel revealed a
maintenence tag (oil, tires, etc.) that was dated 11/94 with a mileage
of 65K. Talking to the neighbors they said they moved in about a year
and a half ago and they had never seen the car move. And that it was an
older woman who lived there. They said they would love to see the car
gone and the realator probably would too. COOL! :)

Our local Ford dealer (Evangeline Motors) has both the showroom
AND the parts department open until midnight. Life has never been
so good for the backyard mechanic!

Chris, never post personal e-mail to the list for any reason except
when requested or with permission by the sender. This in fact is a major
violation not to mention unethical.
Second thing here is, you just posted to the list the very thing
your complaining about receiving privately! If you have a complaint
concerning the list, please send it to Ken and not to the list.
I suggest you forgive and forget. Your wielding a two edge sword,
the deeper you deliver, you may also receive!
If anyone forwards a private e-mail form me to the list without my
permission, I will blow a fuse like you wouldn't believe. I think Ken
would take action if he received a complaint. It would need to be an
unwelcome post but it is common courtesy to ask before forwarding
anything!
You don't think your making an issue of this. But you are posting
negatively about a person who so far has done nothing wrong!
Lets put both these behind us as "No wrong doing intended" and get
on with it.

Here In Phila ,PA we dont have open till midnight but we do have one
open till 9pm and most open on sat for parts!

But boy could i use that midnight run in the summer :)
you know the one when you break that Ford only part at around 10pm
and no one else has it!

I Just got home from the Public Library and checked my e-mail, while I
was there I picked up that exact book! Then I come on here and you tell
me about it as I'm paging through it. WOW!

You people should all utilize your public library, While I was there I
also picked up the book, "How to Rebuild your BIG-BLOCK FORD", also a
very informative and helpful book, I also got "How to Rebuild your Ford
V-8, 351C-351M-400-429-460" This looks like a GREAT book also,
especially because I am just begining to assemble my 400 for my '79
F-100. This book has detail instructions and TONS of pictures! I love
it!

I have determined its a '67 for sure. I'll let you all know more about
it and respond to those posts with ?'s more tommorrow after I meet with
the realator! I'm never going to be able to fall asleep tonight!

Well guys it is happening sooner than I thought. Our second car (the
Escort) died today so there is a fire under my a...errrr... buttocks to get
some wheels fast. Good news is we are close to having enough money to get
the truck now, and her boss might front her the extra money just so she can
get in to work (and what a deal for her... she gets to drive a new mustang
if I get the truck)

Anyway I don't know much about the '66 so maybe you guys can help me out
with what I need to look for.

1) Engine - I know it has a V8, but I have no idea what V8's were
available that year. I'd rather not trust the seller to tell me the truth.
What engines were available that year?? And if possible, how can I tell by
VIN number what is supposed to be in there engine-wise?

2) Trouble spots - Are there any really bad things that are typical for this
year that I need to look out for? I mean, aside from the gas tank being in
the cab. :-)

3) Bed - The bed is pretty rusty. It's okay for light work I suppose but I
will need to carry some crushed stone and need something more robust. Local
salvage yard has a number of take-off beds from Fords that are in EXCELLENT
condition. Are any other years an easy bolt-on??? Will later model beds
mount to an early truck like this without looking really goofy? Oh, yeah,
the truck is a standard cab with an 8' bed. Two wheel drive.

I read the article about swapping disc brakes onto this truck from the web
page. EXCELLENT tech article!!! Are there any plans to get an update to
the article on how to add power brakes?

Reason I ask is the Escort still runs. Just not very reliably. I know that
it's worth *something* to a salvage yard because it runs and I can drive it
in. So I would like to stretch that out as far as I can in trading for
parts. For safety's sake I'd like to upgrade to power disc brakes and
secondly, if possible, upgrade to power steering. I'd also like to haggle
for a better bed but I need to know what will fit well.

with Clevelands (and, true, 1973 was the last year in that model for the

FTC I have decided to pull the 1964 F350 back with a tow dolly. It seems
to be the only solution left to me now since the trailer I was going to
use for free is stuck in a field in South Carolina along with the tractor
that tried to pull it out. BTW I bought a Draw-Tight tow bar that bolts
to the bumper. It is a solid unit and should work well for the job. I
bought it because I got tired of dealing with the rental companies and
their million questions only to be told it won't work. I know they are
covering themselves for potential law suits but it is almost as if they
really do not want to rent you a trailer with their attitude.

Chris,
The only engines i know that were available in the '66 are the 352, 361,
and 391.
The engine code can be found in the Warranty Number row on the Vehicle
Identification plate. The first set of characters in this row will be the
Truck series code. The next character should be the engine code. D-352;
E-361; F-391.
If the bed is pretty rusty, I would also check the front cab mounts.
These can play havoc with clutch linkages on manuals. I had an automatic that
kicked out of gear everytime I took off from a stop. Good luck!

Drew,
For some reason our Ford engineers were having a bad day when they
decided on nylon gear teeth. Cloyes makes some of the best timing sets on the
market, but I would just get a good aftermarket timing set with steel gears.
There's no need to waste your money on extra performance parts when you're
running a stock motor.
