FORDTRKNUT: Thanks for the addresses of the salvage yards. I should be able to use them, as I live in the general area. My old F-250 Heavy Duty Special ('71), is in pretty good shape. For $100, I think I got lucky! I also got the Mac and Obselete Ford catalogues. That should help too. "Undecided Future" I will skip #1 #2 is yes, kind of and yes #3 Yep. you can use a 76-79 Dana 44 or 78-79 Dana 60 out of a Ford. If you have the small 6" knuckles you could just swap for Che*y parts or Do*ge parts for that mater. Changing out the entire axle for a Do*ge or Che*y would require a t-case change as well. - -- Don Grossman duckdon 63 Ford F-250 4x4 67' 390, t-98, Spicer 24, Dana 60, Dana 44, power steering, power brakes, and now ON BOARD AIR! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Nov 1997 10:29:22 -0800 From: abbott Subject: 351 W/M In the years of 351 W/M (both Windsor's & M's offered), what were the deciding factors that put each engine in a truck? How 'bout a late model Ford? My 79 F250 has 8 lugs and disc brakes. Just be sure that when you get a newer axle you check on the lug stud size. Newer Ford axles have 9/16" studs and yours probably has 1/2" so you will need new lug nuts. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Nov 1997 10:50:31 -0800 From: danadeb Subject: Re: Chrome & Mom & Dad I just pulled the chrome. When we were a new list there was an ongoing Slick 50, carburator and milage war going on. Being a new list administrator I didn't know how to handle it or if I should. I found some mailing list FAQs and they said this was normal growth. The FAQ suggested I take the "Den Mother" approach and practice some patience. I jokingly referred to myself as the "List Mom" since the FAQ said many admins are called by this name. It stuck. Now that my wife helps behind the scenes perhaps she oughta be the list mom and I'll be the list pop. Ford truck content: does anyone know where to get NOS painted bumpers? Does anyone know if there was a "NON" step type rear bumper for 1970 trucks? Most of the bumpers I have seen are the step type. I did see a truck with a bumper that looked like a front bumper on the rear. (it fit correctly so I assume it was stock.) Dana ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Nov 1997 23:04:50 -0800 From: Randy Collins Subject: Ford Options List members, I spent some time today installing a few Ford options in the project truck today. It now proudly boasts intermittent wipers and cruise control. I pulled the options from a 1977 2WD and installed them in the 1975 Supercab. The intermittent wipers installed easily. I followed pointers from the list and the switch and the control box simply plugged into the line. The cruse control is a little more complicated but it also unplugs and installs into the earlier wiring harness just fine. It was so thoughtful of Ford to center punch the necessary holes simplifying the installation. Anyone familiar with the differences in the pre '79 cruise control and the post '79 cruise setups? I heard that the post '79 setups have the resume feature. Since I already have the resume button on my steering wheel pad do I just need one of the post '79 control boxes? Is it as simple as just getting the later model control box and plugging it in? Sounds too easy! If anyone needs more information on the installation of these drop me a note and I would be glad to help.
