I bought mine from NAPA for $105, I just moved my old trim to the new 'gate. The '65 289 motor was available in 3 different ways as follows: Code "A" is the 289-4bbl V-8 High Compression/Premium Fuel/Hydraulic Lifter Code "C" is the 289-2bbl V-8 Low Compression/Regular Fuel/Hydraulic Lifter Code "K" is the 289-4bbl V-8 High Compression/Premium Fuel/Mechanical Lifter My 289 was originally the "C" code and was rebuilt it to "K" code specs. which explains the head swap for the 4bbl. The 2bbl heads were not ported like the 4bbl. Also the lifters had to be changed from hydraulic to mechanical. The "A" code and the "C" code heads I believe were the same. I will look in to it some more. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Nov 1997 15:30:12 -0600 From: Mike Schwall Subject: Re: Funny named 4sp OD At 12:12 PM 11/27/97 -0800, you wrote: >> >>> The Tremec is a 5 speed trans, rated for about 450# of torque, >>>it wouldn't stand a chance behind a 460, or even a well built >>>300 I6 for that matter. >> >>What 4 or 5 spd. manual would stay together behind a worked over 460? >> >>Mike >> > >An NP 435 would, but it's really a 3 speed with a granny gear Is this the one that is on some '73-'79 trucks? I've seen some granny 4 spds at the junk yard. The case on these things are rather big and drop down low. What's the torque rating of the NP 435? Are there any 3spd + OD or 4 spd + OD out there than can handle serious torque from a worked over 460? (NA and no NOS). I have a 460 laid out on paper and I am looking at around 550+ HP. (150 hp) Assembled in January or February of 1971 Assembled in Twin Cities, MN (or Norfolk VA, the N and P in the serial number are throwing me off). The O in the color code stands for Sea Foam Green and the M stands for Wimbeldon White (is it two tone?). The F101 indicates a gross vehicle weight of 4,200 lbs. The rear end is a 3.5:1 The transmission is a C-6 3 speed automatic. Not sure what the 6_4 means for the body, this is not listed in my book and not sure what the WB131 is either. Hope this helps.
