What does the "M" in 351"M" stand for, plane "M", - -> "Midland", "Michigan", or "Modified"? Ford refers to it as Modified. At least one third-party book confuses the matter by using the term Midland. Hey, it could be worse. The lineage of the early Chrysler hemis makes Ford's engine incestuous engine families look positively mundane. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Nov 97 14:25:00 -0800 From: Adam Clever Subject: FW: NP435 >NP stands for New Process(a gear making company) and is part of Dodge/Chysler/Plymouth (whichever name is the tippy top of that corporate food chain) >>While under my 68 F100 I noticed a "N" with what looks like a sun sounds about right, look for the P and its for sure. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Nov 1997 18:43:47 -0500 (EST) From: DBrents105 Subject: Re: 66 Transmission If you are looking for an automatic, first choice C6, second choice FMX. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Nov 1997 16:36:22 -0700 From: "Dave Resch" Subject: Re: 335 Series Engines >were made in the Midland plant thus the confusion but they are still >cleveland blocks and all 3 are 335 series engines :-) The M-block (351M/400) is not considered a "Cleveland" block because of its taller deck height and larger main journal size, even though 351C and M-blocks are all 335 series engines. The stroke of the 351C and 351M is 3.50" (same as the 351W). The stroke of the 400 is 4.00". All 351s and the 400 share the 4.00" bore. Did some damage to the BMW, didn't look major but I'd hate to see the frame when its up on a wrack. Its going to cost her.... My F100's front-right side bumper got bent back 6 inches, the front-right quarter panel has been pushed back 4 inches and creased out about 3 inches. Hood cowl is ruined and the metal between the bumper and the body is toast. Grill has some damage too. This lady (I use the term lightly) had the gall to say I rammed her and that the damage already existed on my truck! Then she lied to the officer and said she was completely in my lane when I hit her (only the right side of my truck had damage and the left side of her car). I'm glad she tried to lie because the officer knew she was lying and gave her a ticket for improper lane change. It gets worse... I don't see how this could be related, its too dark to get under the truck to see if a tranny cooling line is busted but the C6 tranny started slipping really badly on the way home. I'm not looking forward to this weekend. I'm really glad I've got pictures of the truck from before the accident. Also, I've got 2 years of receipts which prove I'm restoring it (plus the antique tag). Her insurance company is not going to weasil out of it... I know exactly how much the NOS parts cost. How much did you crank it last time and how long has the van been sitting? The gas may be old and could be causing some problems. With the cold weather, you may have washed the cylinders with gas and thined out the oil. A friend of mine who drives a ch*vy did this and drained about 2 galons of oil/gas mix out of his oil pan! Check your oil level, if it's high this may have happened to you. The cold up here is hard on vehicles (I'm in Great Falls Montana), I've also heard of having to squirt a litle oil in the cylinders to restore compression in the cold (I've seen it work!) How soon are you heading up to get the van? The weather is supposed to get cold this weekend, it was in the 60's today. I was in Butte last weekend on my way elk hunting. Good luck. Just bring it to your local Firestone, Goodyear or Big "O" and have them check it. You could bring it to Pep Boys but then you'll need to replace the front end after they screw it up! Don't ever let Pep Boys work on your truck! When caster & or camber are out it's normaly the coils are bad. Then you would have inner wear on your tires.
