Then go to a different shop for smog check. By the way, always ask for a pretest before you go for the real one. That way the smog police won't be in your face if it fails! Also the seller was responsible to clear up the smog issue before he sold it to you. If the seller didn't inform you about the smog control problems you my be able to recoup some costs in small claims court. (I am no lawyer but you may have some rights here ) See the following site: http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://webgarage.com/ci/smog2.htm#require It states the following: "The seller must provide the buyer with a Smog Check certificate or VIR indicating compliance prior to the transfer of ownership. Ownership cannot be transferred if the vehicle has a Gross Polluter hold on it, or has been issued a waiver or economic hardship extension, unless all repairs have been made, and a certificate of compliance is issued. It's great to see how each person tunes their truck via the exhaust to make it just the way they like it. As for Sleddog, SHAME SHAME, on you ;-) Actually I already thought of it but, a few recycles that I called wont sell a cat. Seems to be illegal around hear. Don't think it is worth the chance. In any case I will take all your advises and get the best free flowing cat that I can afford. The only reading that was even close to the limit was the CO level. So an oxygenating Cat should make that one even lower. If the other reading change a little it won't matter because I had a lot of room before I would get even close to the limits. If I can afford all the parts I want I plan to go with 2.25" or 2.5" pipe from the stock manifold to the cat. Then run 3" the rest of the way. Should sound pretty good with the flowmaster big block muffler in it. One more question. With a Crew Cab would you all exit in front or behind the rear passenger side wheel? The only problem with going in front that I can think of is it would be a little close to the rear passenger door? Wouldn't want anyone to get burned!! Would this set up be much louder than going out behind the rear wheel? Seems to me that it should flow a little better by avoiding the bends for the axle clearance. Also seems that just after the axle is where they rust out first. May make the system last a little longer. Gary, he installed the whole 9" rear end from a Lincoln and is using air suspension. A nice set-up indeed! Hopefully he will give us the details on the truck. (Sorry Marv I think this is called "on the spot"). Marv is a knowledgeable and interesting Bro. I hope we get together again. If you need a hand with any of your projects just drop me a line and I'll be there, late but I'll be there! (I was suppose to be there at 10am, I think I showed up at a casual 12:30) I was looking at my trucks springs and the difference is like night and day. I can't wait to see how it handles. I'll do it Monday when my wife is at work and I can have the driveway. Not that it's a problem but she still remembers the one day header installation that turned into and engine rebuild. Maybe I didn't need to park in the middle but that's where I like to work. That way I can tell if I'm leaking something or it's a stain from where I worked on something! :) I'll update as it happens. Until then I'll just ramble and offer miss-information to peoples questions. Later! When I had my exhaust done, they told me a 302 with duel exhaust, I wouldn't get any realistic advantage having a balance tube. I don't think my engine could flow any better than what it does. A balance tube does more than equalize pressure. It's one of those soundwave, ying yang things. I'm still a little froggie about the whole thing (Rib bib).
