No cat, No EGR, No smog pump, No cannister, NO NUTIN'!! And IT'S STOCK -- Cherry original!! I love owning a truck sold for Texas and driving it in California. I just wish that I could convince Smoggy that since it NEVER had any $! anything by adding aftermarket parts. Weasle boy still says I can't put dual pipes on it but I could have headers. Go figure. You may want to check a factory service manual and see if cats were available for your truck. I know on a '76 the exhaust system was dual pipes back to the muffler for a 460 then a single tail pipe out to the end. The pipes were pretty large and the muffler was ENORMOUS!! If you could get a smog shop to mandril bend (smooth constant radius with no kinks) a setup similar to the stock setup, use a stock muffler and large diameter pipes, it may flow pretty freely. I thought I may have problems before I got there so I was expecting the worst. I just got my '79 F250 Crew Cab about six months ago and the guy I bought it from was real evasive about the smog check. I thought how bad could it be? It has current tabs on it. I have been doing some tuning work and have many of the ignition parts replace that were in terrible shape when I bought the truck. I pulled in and the first thing the test tells me is that I need to go in side to the office. Not a good sign. Seems it failed last year and was working on some kind of extension. Got the paper work and pulled back around to have the test. Technician looks for gas caps. That checks OK. Looks at the sniff test results. That PASSED. I'm thinking this is great! I passed! Then the little weasel gets out his stupid little mirror and said. You don't have a cat. You failed. Go back to the office. Crap!! Now I have about thirty days to get my rusty old dual exhaust converted back over to a single cat system in order to met the spec book requirements. The hard part to swallow is that even with not having checked the timing yet and a carb that NEEDS a rebuild I past the sniffer test. So What Do I Need This Stupid Cat For Anyway!! The guy in the office said, because it is supposed to have one. Well la-de-da! Guess I have to start that exhaust project about three months sooner than I wanted. Won't the wife be just THRILLED. By the way, anybody know what the stock pipe size on a '79 F250 Crew Cab with a 460 is?? I was thinking about running 2" to the converter and then 2.5" the rest of the way.
