I changed the archive page over to a table based page so the archives (and the list splits) make more sense to newcomers. http://www.ford-trucks.com Archives are in ZIP format, using maximum compression (Mac users make sure your "Zipper" supports maximum compression) and long filenames (sorry 16-bit Window users). Our archives go back to the very beginning of the list - only the first two weeks of the list aren't archived (which is a shame). ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Oct 97 15:08:55 -0400 From: RICHARD_GARBER Subject: Label Information Item Subject: Text Item Hello All, I posted this to the 60 and older list and since it pertains to all here goes. I've been looking for the cost clipper 6 valve cover label for a while.None of the suppliers I've found carry it. Happy to say I've found a supplier got my label and it's perfect. This place makes nothing but labels(who'd think you could make a living that way). Their catalog is 160 pages and covers all makes. Alot of ford stuff. Great way to detail an engine. It has 123k on the original 400 with a C6 and NP205. It was mostly used for towing a 17 ft fishing boat around in the Pacific NW, very little actual four wheeling. It has a little surface rust on the hood where the paint has gone south but no other visible rust. I checked the rear fenderwells and cab corners and it seems to be pretty solid. I'm looking for a reliable daily driver which could handle some camping up in the mountains. It also has a shell and carpeted bed kit in it. The guy wants $3200 for it. Is this a good deal? The only bad thing I've heard about this series is that the ram (?) type power steering is a little dicey. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. The only Seems a bit stiff to me, but if it's in really good shape it could be a fair price. I just paid $3k for a 78 bronco in similar condition with a solid tail gate and window that works but the floors are rusty and a little bondo above the rear tires but I wanted it because it had all the chasis and power train items I wanted and paid the price. It was no deal but it was a fair price I thought based on others I'd seen and various blue books prices :-) > bad thing I've heard about this series is that the ram (?) type > power steering is a little dicey. Any comments would be greatly > appreciated. Not sure what ram power steering is but the 79's have integral units? Pretty good ones too I think, same as the broncos except different housing. Nothing is right >for every situation, but the discussion here offers everyone the chance to >chose what's right for them. It's the discussion that makes this LIST >GREAT! You are absolutely correct. One of my problems is I take things to personally at times. When I do get mad I type a letter holding nothing back. I can usually calm down by the time it's finished (some need to be long for adequate cooling) then I delete it. When a reply is in order my second letter is a little more controlled. Needless to say I've blown it at times! When I do blow it I send an apology, not that it needs to be accepted or justifies the first, but it's better than nothing! I also try and keep in mind that it's not just who I'm are replying to, but a list. If people disagree it's OK to post their disagreements and should always include why, if you have a reference, include it, if you can't remember where you seen it don't include it (one of my pet peeves). One thing that is hard to except is no one is right and no one is wrong, there just different opinions and there's always a better way. One of the things that gets to me is when someone thinks I'm mad when I'm not. There's no mistaking when I'm mad. I have the diplomacy of an MX. >I haven't decided what I'll do fan wise. If money was no object then I'd >like to try electric fans, but money is always an object! And when it >comes down to spending the $$$ I'll probably put them where I get the best >value. Right now I have other priorities, like fixing the body cancer and >getting this thing painted. I didn't take into consideration that I didn't have air-conditioning in my truck and others may. I wasn't concerned about overloading my alternator. I'm not sure what the fan draws but worth looking into if it is a concern. If you get an electric fan from a "Pick a Part" type of junkyard it would be a cheap way to see if you like the benefits and if you don't, with a 12v converter you'll have a nice exhaust fan for the shop! I'm really impressed with the difference the electric fan made in my '73 F-100 and would recommend one. Next thing I want to change is the fuse box. I hate glass fuses! Good luck with your truck.
