AOL's internet email gateways are overloaded and some list mail gets temporarily sidetracked when things get clogged. I'm afraid there's not much in the short term that can be done until the bottlenecks are removed. As far as I can tell everyone's experiencing the same problem: some list mail is near-instant, other stuff takes forever. Regards, Dave Phillips AOL iDOT team >> Jon E. The short-term and permanent solution is to switch to one of the many ISPs that offer better connects, personal service, faster systems and more features for less money. AOL is the MacDonalds of the Internet. Having said that.... To everyone: This list (61-79) goes far off topic quite a bit. Administrative stuff needs to come to me as I'm sure most of the group doesn't want to hear it. This group has over 100k of message traffic daily (50-150 emails) and its membership has been steadily shrinking in size for two months. The other two groups have grown... but they don't have all the "fluff." People leave all the time sending me emails which basically say "I thought we were here to talk about trucks?" Our charter is being updated to address these problems. Talking about your brother-in-laws mini-van, your Tempo, how much your ISP sucks, etc are **not** acceptable topics. Yes, there are a lot of friends on the list who like to just chat and I believe that's okay (I've made many friends through the lists) as long as we keep it within the context of our purpose. If you want to talk about other Ford vehicles, join Fordnatics. If you want to talk about other makes, join any one of the numerous lists out there. I tend to be very lax about the topicality as I don't want moderation. However, I believe 95% of the members would agree with me about off-topic posts. Many lists have a 3-strikes you're out rule, I won't do that but I will update the charter about the concerns and email it to everyone. Climbing off soap box... A cousin of mine and me installed a 2x600 Weiand setup on his '70 Che*elle/400 SBC combo (he just won't listen about Fords!) and he was immediately dissatisfied. He lost so much bottom end, he could hardly drive the car with an auto trans in it. We had to put in a looser converter (he already had a higher-than-stock stall speed installed), and up the rear gears to 4.88 from 3.73 to make it driveable, and then it got 5-8 mpg at best tune. A couple of cool things about them, however: (1) LOOKS. You are now certifiably high-falootin', only (possibly) outdone by forced induction! (2) Top end power is almost impossible to beat with any other normally aspirated intake. They are excellent for drag racing. These are a major PITA (Pain in the A*s) on a street driven vehicle unless: the vehicle weighs next to nothing, never sees cold weather, and requires little low rpm power (see: T-bucket). Not to mention cutting a big hole in your hood, and leaving your carbs exposed to the elements, or installing a giant ProStock style hoodscoop that you can't see around. They are a pain to tune, and grumpy about atmospheric changes. Cold weather is a no-no. Unless they have changed the kit, there are no chokes on these carbs, as if they would do any good anyway. Anything on top of the engine other than the carbs probably will need to be relocated. Vacuum lines will either probably need to be (re)moved/changed. If you are getting a one, go for the 2x450 setup to save a little bottom end for street driving. A four speed manual tranny would probably make life easier for streetability as far as driveline changes. Matching the rest of your engine to the intake (cam, heads, exhaust) can *somewhat* offset a lot of the problems that we encountered. A lot of the problems we encountered, you might be able to live with, because it is your *toy*. Good luck, with either direction you decide to take. > Date: Fri, 07 Nov 1997 01:02:04 -0500 > From: Brian & Jacque Milbrandt > Subject: Tunnel Ram Combo ?? > > NEED INPUT !!! > > What's the "Lists" thoughts on tunnel rams ??, > gas mileage is not great with the 460 anyway.
