The front axle will remain stock but we have installed a 302. It will be a great help to me if anyone has an answer. Also visit my webpage at http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://members.aol.com/clssicford/index.html and tell me what you think about my truck. Sorry if the pictures are blurry. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Oct 1997 17:47:58 -0700 From: Jason Eaton Subject: Re: Spring location on rear drum brakes Thanks everyone. I have the truck on the road again. It's been an good weekend for truck information. I found out the rear axle is from a 72' F350. That explains the spring information being incorrect for a 64'. Originally my truck was a 64' F100. But I definitely have a 1 ton rear axle and front suspension as well because I have dual piston calipers up front. Why would anybody put 1 ton suspension on a shortbox? Anyway I got the brake hardware kit from my local autoparts store, a Ford enthusiast there help me to identify the rear axle. So I pulled all the brake hardware out cleaned up the back plates and painted them. Put all the new hardware on including the new self adjusting cables which go down to the adjuster. There is a problem there I am missing the little piece of metal which connects the adjuster to the cable. Time to hit th junk yards. I also got my little red book yesterday. Now I know alot more tidbits about my truck. It was a 64 built in September. Therefore it as a 65' grill and emblems on the fender instead of the hood. It has parking lights on the grill at the same level as the FORD emblem. This is also a change in 65. Thanks for everyone's help, Jason. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Oct 1997 19:55:58 -0500 From: "Dale and Donna Carmine" Subject: Wiring Diagrams Dana, Haynes 73-79 Ford Pickup & Bronco manual has wiring diagrams. Hard to follow because of fine lines and poor quality, but the info is there if you look long enough! Paid $17 for mine. Not the best manual but better than nothing. I'm still looking for a factory service manual for my '79 F-150. If you are interested I have a set of factory cast iron headers for an FE Ford. They were original equipment on 406 and 427 Galaxies of 60-64. Why would you want to change from 1/2 ton to 1/2 ton on the front end? I could see putting a live axle in place of the TTB or changing the 1/2 ton TTB to a 3/4 ton with hubs and rotors. any way 76-86 should interchange from the spindle out. Remember the "should" Look at the parts an do a comparison just to make sure. All the spindles that I have seen are attached with 5 studs all in the same pattern. The caliper mount should stay and the hub simply is attached to the spidle so if the spindle will work so should the hub. Shake your head a little and share some more information with us on what you are doing. - -- Don Grossman duckdon 63 Ford F-250 4x4 67' 390, t-98, Spicer 24, Dana 60, Dana 44, power steering, power brakes ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Oct 1997 19:22:00 -0800 From: Don Grossman Subject: Re: t98 trans JAMES MERLO wrote: > > My message was worded poorly. The autos all have the bellhousing built in and so does the 5 speed so all that will be left is the housing for the 3 speeds and 4 speeds. You could use the bellhousing from the 300-6, 302(later model) 351W or 351C. There are so many 300-6 with three and four speed tranys 2 and 4 wheel drive that one should be easy to find. I have not used it yet but I intend to put it on my '72 351C HO in place ot the Motorcraft Spreadbore that came stock. I have read about this carb at the Pony Carburators web site (ponycarbs.com) and Mustang Monthly Magazine. They say that the unique fuel delivery venturi atomizes gas closer to the vapor state than any other carb. It is suppse to be the closest thing to fuel injection you can get in carb form. It is simple, reliable and was used on Fords from the late '50s to early '70s. Only two venturi sizes were made, around 450 cfm for small blocks and 600 cfm for big blocks (I got mine off a ''65 Galaxy with a 390.) Since I have not yet used this carb yet I hope the hype is true. Right now I have to rely on what "they" say. Off to buy a flame suit. Jon E.
