I've got a new one. On normal Michigan roads I can feel nothing at any speed but on new, smooth pavement I get a vibration around 65 and up that feels like a u joint but my whole heinny is telling me it's not. Just something a little different so I'm thinking cupped tires (which I know I have), bent or out of balance drive shaft, pinion bearing, xfer case output shaft bearing, out of balance clutch assy.. I know I have most of these problems but it seems to be getting worse since I started running 70-75 on the Eway. Think I'm going to look into a drive shaft sling real soon :-) Going to take a quick peek at the u joints tonight but don't think I'll find anything wrong there. Yo Brian: I'll second sleddog's suggestion about the push rods. You only need hardened push rods if you're using guide plates. Regular push rods would be galled by rubbing on the guide plates and eventually fail. I also agree about the rockers. I have heard many good things about roller rockers from many people, both in terms of performance and durability. BTW: I recently noticed in my latest Summit catalog that someone (Crane? maybe) has replacement fulcrums for Ford V8s. They replace the sled fulcrum w/ a needle bearing unit. It retrofits w/ the stock rocker arms for about $110/set of 16. Not sure if that's worthwhile, unless you really can't find a full roller rocker for your application (with the correct ratio, etc.). About the gear drive for timing: I too have heard that they take a bit more power to turn than a chain setup, however, I have also heard that they will last virtually forever, and if you buy a quality unit (say Pete Jackson or Moroso) with double idlers, you will wear out every other part of the engine before you need to worry about any timing slop. (I have heard from car racer friends that single idler units tend to wear out fairly quickly.) Although gear drives were originally designed to maintain timing stability in ultra-high rev applications, I believe the long-term reliability and not having to concern yourself with wearing out a timing chain would pay dividends that justify the purchase price and the few horses lost to the mechanism. It's much better than a Holley. When you get the Ford linkage you will also need a special Cable Mounting Bracket. A 625 CFM is a little small for a 460. I think the equation is: Displacement in Cu. In/3456 X maximum RPM - ------------------------------------ I just read that formula this morning on sizing your carb. Holley says oversizing the carb is the biggest mistake they see. What I read said also to not assume more than 85 % efficiency though. So just take 85 % of your result. I've pretty much decided to give up on Holleys too. Mine just idles too rich no matter what I try, and will flood for no apparent reason. The last thing I'm going to try is to drill holes in the throttle blades and/or put small wires in the idle circuit passages to restrict fuel flow. Anybody else ever try this? I've been thinking of an Edelbrock or Carter. They appear to be the same to me, but one guy I know with an Edelbrock says they're not. I know Webber makes the Edelbrock, but I don't know about the Carter.?
