If just dim then replace the regulator for your alternator. I suppose it could even cause them to go out if the battery was low enough?? I did the same thing on my 78 and couldn't find anything, then one day it wouldn't start and the light went on (in my head). Been fine ever since. Replace the portion going to the coil and distributor with the new stuff and wire the red input to the module to the start relay by what ever means and the white wire to the balast resistor and you're all set. There should be a red wire connected to the ignition switch for the start circuit so I'd trace that back and find a good spot to connect to it. If you mean module, not true. I burned up a starter before I realized the starter was running on due to a short in the module which kept the start relay energized after releasing the key. The engine was initially so noisy I didn't notice it but caught it while working on it in the garage one day (replacing the starter). I replaced the ignition switch and start relay and checked out the selenoid on the starter before realizing that something else was feeding the circuit. The 6 - 8 volts from the run side of the ignition won't energize the relay but will hold it on once energized by 12v. Hey sleddog, What's the philosophy with the coil mounting? I've had my blaster mounted on it's side for over a year now. Why is upright better? I don't recall anything in the MSD manual.. >if you use the ford destributer get the large rotor and cap it prevents >crossfire much better. >and one commonly missed thing is do not allow the #7 & #8 plug wires to be >next to each other as they will crossfire. Yes! The large cap and rotor made a BIG difference with my FE duraspark/MSD setup. I *highly* recommend it. I've seen problems with the adjacent firing #7 & #8 wires also. Good plug wire routing is critical with a high energy ign system.
