A 28 spline and a 32 spline. 32 spline had bigger dia. shafts. Original was 3.50 ratio. Your original engine is an 8-400. (this confuses me as I did not think any 400's came with a C4, I thought they all had C6's.) There are 2 types of C6 housings, one for small block windsors and the other for 351m, 400m and 460. Since I am now confused about the 400m engine you have, I can just say you need the correct C6 housing. Make sure the tail shaft is the one for a transfer case and not a 2 wheeler. If you know which type bearing you have, just cross-reference it and get replacements. Ford can probably help you with which type housing you have. Count the axle splines to determine which carrier you have. (it was a ! back on the trailer after the pulls!) turns out that the magnetic pickup was bad and wouldn't send a signal once it soaked up some heat. i have heard that the ignition boxes do go bad often, but mine hasn't. they are still the racers choice for ignition, but there are other companies out there selling good products, like jacobs for example. sleddog - ---------- From: Tim Baker[SMTP:mei Sent: Monday, October 13, 1997 4:56 PM To: 'fordtrucks61-79 Subject: FW: electronic ignition - ---------- From: Tim Baker Sent: Sunday, October 12, 1997 9:36 PM To: 'fordtrucks61-79 Subject: RE: electronic ignition I've used one similiar on my 69 cougar and mustang without a problem I like it a lot and very simple to use and install along with no parts that will wear or go bad---though on my 56 F-100 I am thinking about an all MSD ign. unless someone knows something bad about them. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Oct 1997 08:51:29 -0500 From: Brian & Jacque Milbrandt Subject: Re: electronic ignition Hey Sleddog, I need a electronic set up for my motor. Aaarrggghh!! I have one on my 351M which I assumed was improperly torqued since the carb pad is not flat and I had to do some creative torquing of the carb nuts to get it to seal and allow the secondaries to close all the way.
