Date: Sun, 28 May 2000 00:00:07 -0700 Hey guys and gals, Time for me to pick your collective brain again. I'm wanting to replace the standard lap belts in my '69 with a lap/shoulder belt. I've got the captive nut in the B-Pillar, so that helps. I was looking at a friends '95 Bronco and noticed it had the retractor out in the open, not tucked insided the body, so I think this would be a faily easy swap. Has anyone out there done this or something similar? Thanks for your help. Does anyone have this info, or know where I can find it? I've got the 4 shop manuals, but neither seems to have this information. Also, is there a 4 (or 5) speed tranny that is a direct drop-in for the three speed unit? A trip to the scrapyard to get some replacement steering column parts and a peek at a 77 F250 revealed the location of the switch...it's wired under the dash to a flat black plastic connector. We grabbed one of the connectors and will use it to make a splice cable between the plug on the neutral switch and the plug under the dash. Today was a very productive day - I figured out how to swap the wiring inside the distributor, we replaced the broken shifter indicator and horn mechanism on the steering column, figuring out the difference between 77 horns and 79 horns. The 77's seem to use a relay on the dash and have one less wire in the steering column. The 79s don't have the relay but have an extra wire in the column. The wire from the relay to the column on the 77 is a ground from the relay. When you press the horn, the route to a ground is completed, the relay closes and the horn goes. On the 79's, without the relay. The wiring going into the column is a power. Power goes in the column, through the depressed horn switch and back to the horn. A quick addition of a ground plug to the column harness connector and my horn is now functioning! We were about to leave the scrapyard when they mentioned they had just brought in a truck the day before. We had a few minutes so we went back to check it out and hit the jackpot. 79 F150 2WD with cruise control and tilt steering column! We were able to grab the cool tilt column (never seen one up here) and will probably go back for the AM/FM Ford radio, the cruise control stuff and the nice looking grill and grill shell... We're pretty sure the tilt column can be swapped into the 4x4... David Wadson - wadsond "PS1" - 79 F100 ...ground into a million pieces. "PS2" - 78 F100 ...currently alive and kicking. Date: Sun, 28 May 2000 18:34:44 -0400 Hi Folks, I have a request for anyone whose willing to help out. I'm slowly (and that's being optimistic) restoring my '77 F150 4X4. My windshield wipers are next to useless and I didn't want those ugly spring assists. When I took them off I found the springs badly rusted (big surprise up here in Ontario) and the tab that holds the spring to the wiper had started to peel, both contributing to poor holding power. Does anyone have a set of these guts kicking about or a set of wipers in good shape? The dealer wants a kings ransom for new ones but I would much rather pay someone for a good set. Just e-mail me off list and we can set it up. Also I have the gauges out of late seventies dash pod if anyone needs any, the only score I made in checking all my local wrecking yards. It's thinning out quickly because as the trucks rust and become lighter they get less money, so the crusher has been racing me. Thanks in advance if anyone can help out.
