Wayne PS.....The part number (like somebody said) should be D3TZ-----thru----D9TZ. The second digit is the second part of the year. Also the first letter: "C" is 1960's......."D" is 1970's......"E" is 1980's. I forget what year....but for started to mess with a perfect numbering system, and started with a "ZZ" (no...not the Mustang stuff....a 1979 Mustang part would be D9ZZ.....A truck would be D9TZ) for the 1999 cars & trucks. I just looked in the parts book for a 66 and the info is confusing. It lists a single speed RH at 12 1/4" long (C3TZ-17545-A) quantity one; but it doesn't list a left hand. I'll measure mine after lunch and get back. We also put new tires on our 66. They were Goodyear Eagle GT11's. Front was P235/70R15 and back was P255/70R15. The rims are 15 x 7". If you want a wider tire on the back, try a P275/60R15 on an 8" rim. Subject: FTE 61-79 - Some day I findin' a new hobby Pulled the iron intake off of my FE Dropped a 3/8"washer down the heat crossover/heat riser in the head. Any ideas on getting it out? Can I leave it in there? Here is the intake saga to date.Decide to pull intake and re-seal to repair small oil leak near distributor.Pull the iron intake and install a Shelby intake I picked up about 20 years ago.No problems, runs fine. Check the oil, water in the oil.Off comes the Shelby. Shelby checked out true/flat,pick up "premium" Fel-Pro gaskets and try again. While torquing the tenth of ten bolts, snap goes the bolt and off comes the intake. Do the whole drill again and while torquing sixth of ten bolts strip goes the threads and off comes the intake. Install Heli-Coil in head and try again. While torquing the eighth bolt snap goes the reinforcing boss around bolt on intake and off comes the intake and thats when the washer went down the heat cross over. Take my torque wrench to work and check it out against a couple of others.Checks out fine. I now have a used Edelbrock Performer 390 that was totally filthy but otherwise in excellent condititon.Call around and they want $40 to bead blast it.I figure I can get a cheap blaster for less than that. $100 later I have a blaster, sand, glass beads and safety equipmet etc.. and 2 hours of blasting later the intake looks great. Now if I can just get the sand out of my eyes, ears, hair etc.... I'm starting to think I could have lived with the small oil leak :) == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Oct 1999 12:31:07 -0500 From: "Jason & Kathy Kendrick" Subject: Re: FTE 61-79 - Some day I findin' a new hobby You could try using a small magnet, although it might be tricky on an iron head... Or you could use the paper clip/hook method. If you left it in, it could collect carbon deposits and potentially clog your crossover. L&L designs them to be used with their towers. Realizing these mounts do not have the depth of the complicated stock Ford mount. However, I understand from reading this list that they can be fit to the Ford towers with minimal effort. I have the Torino mounts because they are cheaper and it took NAPA only one day to get them. I have the same experience - I just stand there and hold the gas nozzle - gets awful cold in the winter, though! I haven't tried to find a solution, but now that you mention it, there should be a way to make some kind of adapter that would fit over the filler opening. As I recall, back when they switched from leaded to unleaded fuel, they also made the gas nozzles different sizes, and consequently nozzle adapters were available. Perhaps something like that? Or some kind of rubber cup with a hole in the middle that would snug over the filler opening? Let me know if you come up with anything. The 292 has a longer stroke than the 302, being different blocks, etc. My question is this: How much of a vehicle performance depends on stroke, cubes, and other engine factors as opposed to gear ratio? I do not mean to compare engines with radically different cu. capacity, but rather those that have similar displacements. Also, was the 1st gear of the 292 3-on-the-tree the same as the "second" gear in my 292? My tranny is a 4 speed, but the first gear is a "creeper" gear. Under street conditions, i start the vehicle rolling using "second" gear..... To access the rest of this feature you must be a logged in Registered User Of Ford Truck Enthusiasts
