Depending upon the time, I can probably get together. Are you going to
be up on business? I get to Denver occasionally.

I'm starting my F100 tomorrow to take it to work to haul some scrap
square tubing home, so I can produce a running truck (although not as
nice as Mike P's who lives near me). But I do have a stock AM-FM and a
truck 4 speed and a 360 that's really dependable.

there was an article once on making an open differential into a po mans trac
lock,
it included the block and four springs from a trac lok unit but i can't
remember what else, the article included all part numbers and the parts only
cost about 35.00 a friend did it in his ford truck and he said it worked just
like a track lock. wish i could find the article.
i've had ford trac lock units new in the box that had holes in the
casting around the bolt holes, these were machined so the bolts would be
countersunk below the clutch pack cover. metal was thin in that area and
allowed a crack to start.

As I understand it, "Flywheel" = the big, heavy, thick plate
bolted to the rear of the crankshaft, used for manual
transmission vehicles, and "Flex Plate" = the thin, light plate
bolted to the rear of the crankshaft, with holes drilled in it
to facilitate the bolting of an automatic transmission's torque
converter to it. Ford uses both ... flywheels for manual
transmission/clutch equipped vehicles, and flex plates for
automatic transmission equipped vehicles.

has anyone ever noticed, just about all short wheel base 4x4's and broncos
have traction lock rear ends? i've hardly ever seen a long wheel base with
one, most of them are open.

i had a 96 f250 4x4 powerstroke. loved the truck, but i had a few problems
with it.

1. the front springs are not strong enough for the weight of the diesel
engine. thats why most powerstroke f250's front tires lean in like an old vw
bug. the f350 tires will be straight cause it has a straight axle, but the
front ends still sag and the bump stops will bottom out under normal driving
conditions. ford put out a tsb on it, so they will fix it if you raise enough
he--. all the tsb and recalls can be found at. www.alldata.com

2. had to put it in the shop due to extremely rough idle, $4500.00 later it
was fixed, they replaced all eight injectors and several doo jigis. but the
engine has a factory 100,000 mile warranty on it. it didn't cost me anything.
but i sold it before the warranty ran out. for $4500.00 i could buy a real
nice 78-79 ford and work on it beside the road if i had too.

Sounds like my truck. Minus the am-fm radio!

Since there's such a large group of us; maybe we should all try to
get together for lunch/dinner to meet as a big group (Maybe that'd
get more driving from a bit farther a way to brave the seattle traffic)?

i checked out the truck for sale today, the guy showed me a receipt for near
$1300.00 spent on the rear end just before the engine blew. the receipt said
its a 4.10 gear with a detroit locker. so $2000.00 for the truck sounds
better now.

Since they offer a choice of 2 cabs, I would say the cab is in poor or
non-existant condition, frame not mentioned ???? Also may be a title
problem which prevents it from being driven on the road.
