We was weaving and going 35. The Explorer in front of me passed him. (He had wired up taillights wrong, reverse lights were on all the time). I went to pass him, and did, but he came up right behind me and passed me again, then backed off to 35. I was pretty sure I was going to be faster, so I passed him again, and sure enough he tried to prevent it but couldn't. (HA HA) Anyway, at about 70, my clutch started slipping real bad, and upon further testing down the road, my clutch starts slipping at that speed. So the questions are: What kind of clutch should I get? NP 435 tranny 4x4 The arm connected to the frame had holes in it for the shift linkage. These holes are worn almost to the edge of the arm. Are replacement arms available, or should I weld up the holes to just fit the bushing I already have in there? Now i was putting the distributor back in and it wouldn't go all the way down so i turned it over so then it would pop in and it did, then i come to find out the timing is now way off so i have been trying to find the right spot for the distributor, I haven't seen an answer to this part yet, so here goes. When you say turned it over I am presuming you meant turned the engine over with the starter or a socket on the crank, if this is not the case ignore the rest of this post as it will not apply. If that is what happened you have most likely got the distributor one or two teeth off. The way to fix this is to find TDC and drop the distributor in to fire #1. The steps are. 1 Turn the dist to its final position (where the vacuum can was before you started) 2 Find #1 plug wire and mark it's position on the side of the dist 3 Remove dist and #1 plug 4 Turn engine over slowly while holding your thumb over #1 spark plug hole when you feel pressure you are coming up on the compression stroke. Then turn the engine until you line up on TDC (0) 5 Reinstall the dist so that the rotor lines up with the mark you made for #1. From there you should be able to start the engine and time it to spec. Remember the center shaft rotates slightly as the cam gears are engaged this is easy to see with the rotor installed. Anti seize on the dist where it contacts the block is a good idea (as note by several people on this list) and you can use a little (very little) moly lube on the bottom of the dist gear. Wriggling the rotor gently may also help it drop in.
