I am in the process of gathering parts for a 460 swap. One key piece is a
390 flywheel. I messed up on my first attempt and ended up with a big
truck 390 flywheel - the clutch bolts are too far apart for me to use.

A few questions:

1)Are the 352/360/390 flywheels for a light truck all the same? If not what
is the difference? Are they all the same diameter? What is it?

The big truck 390 flywheel had clutch attachment bolts 14 inches apart
(diameter). I am thinking that a light truck would be around 12 1/2 inches
for a 10 1/2 clutch.

Any clues tips as I begin the hunt again?

Jim

Has anyone tried the velvet-ride spring shackles yet?

http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.drivetrain.com/velvetride.html

I first heard of these a few weeks ago when I was in the local NAPA outlet.
The counter man said that it was a new item and he hadn't heard any feedback
yet. Tonight I was cruising the web and ran across some posts at another
automotive forum. The initial feedback seems positive, however if I had
just shelled out $170 for the latest 'gizmo' I'd probably want to find
something positive to say about it.
I'm interested in any feedback, positive or negative.

Okay, I give up. What's HIMAC? It's not on the acronym list, and I couldn't
think of anything nice.

The Taylor wires are pretty good. I had Accel wires, but last time I checked
my plugs the got ripped up at the crimp. No, I wasn't pulling on the wire. I
twisted the boots first to break their grip on the plugs, then I grabbed the
boot where the clip is. I thought maybe I had done it wrong on the first
one. Was extra careful on the next 4 or 5($30 wires!!!). After that I was
pretty ticked off and just wanted that #*/! OFF my truck! All but 2 pulled
loose. That's the last time I pay for Accels' name. I've tried some of their
other products with similar results.
Anyway, I went to O'Reilly's and got some Taylor universals. That's the only
way to ensure you get the right length wires. Custom fit don't mean sh*t.
The plug boots on the Taylors look funny, but they are a pretty tough
design. Very well made. And the spiral core impressed me. Don't know that
they work any better, but I like them anyway. The distributor boots were too
stiff and hard to push the wire and clips into, so I salvaged the boots off
the Accel wires. I guess not all Accel stuff is bad :)

Taylor makes good wires as far as i'm concerned. they are tough and seem to
last very well, they also withstand heat very good as i have had them touch
exhaust manifolds and not burn through
