Ok gang only one small stupid question

I have a '78 truck with the 400M/C6 combo & have a small question...The
guy I bought it from doesn't remember what type of transmission fluid he
used last time he changed it. Does it matter what I use when I change it
now??? You would think that some one who would have the forethought to
install a transmission pan drain plug would remember what type of fluid he
used. Can you mix Dexron II or III with other types of ATF fluids?? Or
are they all the same??

In my catalogs they have a Ranger plastic insert for the fender plaques
on '66's. Works for '65's too, same plaques, but I don't think Rangers
came out 'til '66. '67's are entirely different trucks. Someone on the
list before was saying that the Ranger package on a '66 included bucket
seats from a Mustang and a center console from a Falcon; I've never seen
one though (but I'd like to!)

As long as the cylinders are not scored, you can get away with
hone, I've used "dingle ball" hones with some measure of success,
as for using "moly" rings, I will paraphrase this with, "IN MY EXPERIENCE",
moly rings are one of the biggest causes of premature blow by, as they
have a tendancy to rotate on the piston, and when that happens, and when
the gaps line up, you get serious blow by. If Iron rings are good enough
for the factory, they're good enough for a reliable, long living, rebuild.....

On to other matters, SHMBO and I take off for a week of relaxation, do a
work on the house, drink a little beer, drive the old truck, well, that all
went
into the sh*tt*r, while pulling rotten deck boards, found some dry rot, cut
it
out, find more dry rot, can you see where this is going? So now we have
a new deck, which SHMBO helped build, I did all the framing, She did all
the decking, now if I could just get her to crawl under the vehicles..........

Anybody out there every changed the plugs on a 351M/400 with
factory air conditioning? How in the hell do you guys get the number four
plug out? I had to crawl underneat and reach up between the engine and
the frame rail... Not exactly the way I'd been planning on spending my
afternoon. Oh well. I was just curious what you guys did. Thanks.

1969 F350 orig 240 T18 4.66 - Options as follows: FoMoCo AM radio. Vinyl
bench seat. 6-tires. Trim level=0. Finite.

Heehee... trim?

My '71 F100 came with nuthin.
Flairside with side mounted spare, 240 / T-18, 3.50 axle (trac-loc), no PB,
no PS, no radio (plastic factory block off plate over radio hole),
no side trim, no nuthin except western swing mirrors.

I see by reading on the site that several are in the process of gathering
parts for installation of a 460 into their truck. FYI, I found the parts I
need, to put a 460 out of a Lincoln in my 71 F-100, at the recycle center
(AKA Pick and Pull in west Dallas) over the weekend. They have a 77
(approx) camper special with a 460, C6, etc. I bought the frame towers,
motor mounts, power steering pump brackets, alternator bracket, a/c
brackets, right side exhaust manifold, and a few other small parts for less
than $70. Azie told me what I needed and I found the stuff the first time
I went looking. For anyone in the Dallas area looking for some parts, this
yard also has a 70 or 71 camper special with lots of stuff left on it and
the one I got most of my stuff from is fairly "fresh" and still has the
engine, trans, rear axle, springs, cab and bed. No radiator or a/c
condensor.

I got a '78 F250 4x4, and I want to put a new carpet in it (it dosent
have ANY now, just a bare floor. anyways, I dont knw where to get one
for 2 reasons. 1st, it has what looks like a after-market transmisson
hump, it bolts to the floor, so I assume that it is? I have seen a blot
in deal on a friends '74 4x4, but it wasnt as tall as this one, im
guessing that it raises the floor 2", the one he has is raised 1", not
exact measurements, but close. 2nd prob, the color, the truck is the
factory color, a green that I have seen alot of late 70's fords, I dont
know the name of the corlor, the door code says "B", so if anybody can
tell me that color, it would help. Where can I get a carpet that is
even remotely close to dark green? JC Whitney has a carpet that is like
factory carpet that comes in green, but I dont want the factory style
carpet, something more durable, and that will clean and resist water and
mud better. Last thing of all, I relly cant find any after-markert
replacemt stuff that is near that color green, any info would help...

I have a 71 Ranger XLT that has factory add-on air, factory power brakes,
and factory power steering, cargo light, woodgrain trim, crome trim on the
hood, back of cab, around the sliding back window, and around the
windshield, and it has carpet inside, cloth velvet seat luxury door panels,
sliding back window with factory tint on all windows, as far as the engine
goes mine had the original 360 with Crome "Powered By Ford" valve covers and
mine came with the C-6 transmission and the 9" 28 spline rearend.

First thanks to all the people who replied and told me their trim!

Now a harder question, to those 67-72 owners who had 240's I'm wondering if
anyone could tell me the torque on that motor I know it had 150 hp but what
about torque?

And if anyone from these years has or knows the torque for the 300 six I
would be very grateful!

The tool: As a youngster I used a tool of a similar description with the
same function. It was called a Sneaky Pete. It worked well enough but
was the second best solution.

Ranger trim: There are '66 Ford and Mercury Rangers. My friend R.M. saw
one (Merc) for sale on Vancouver Island last week. He wants a lot.

I have a 69 F-250. It says custom cab on the sides of cab. It has gauges
instead of idiot lights, it was orginally two tone green and white, with trim
running down the body line, trim around tail lights, and around windshield. it
has a long rear bumper with a heavy duty hitch attached under it, looks like
it could be factory, dual gas tanks, power disc brakes with dual caliper
pistons, and a 360 with 4-speed trans.

66 F-100 390 c-6
69 F-250 360 4-spd
79 F-250 4X4 400m c-6

I know where one is sitting, the fact it was a 4 door is what made me remember
it. It has a for sale sign on it but is located in Pittsburgh PA. If you or

speaking of carpet, i'm in the same situation, but i want to put a plain
rubber mat in mine( i use my truck and the mat is easier to wash out) can
anyone recommend a place to buy the molded to fit mat, besides ford, i
understand they are expensive.

Mine's a '68 F-100. As far as I can tell, it's the bottom of the basement
trim level. There are no markings on it other than the F-100 badges. It does
have the chrome strips on the fenders. Painted grill and headlight bezels.
Rubber mats, no insulation, no upholstery other than the vinyl seat,
"armrests", sunvisors, and dashpad. Cardboard in the roof. Hazard light
switch in the glovebox. Amjam radio that sometimes works. Came with a 360,
FMX tranny, 8 inch rear with 3.25:1 gears, power sterring and tranny fluid
coolers, uglyass "farmer" bumper.
