Has anybody used the cross member style mounts from TransDapt and what was their experience - good or bad? L&L doesn't offer anything for this vintage. JAMES, I am interested in how you are going to do this swap. I would eventually like to replace the 6 cyl engine in my 64 F500 with a V8. My setup is like yours in that engine mounts were of the three point design. The three point design utilizes one mount on the front of the engine and one on either side of the bell housing. The bell housing has "ears" cast into it and the mounts attach between the "ears" and a large cross member. The bell housing is made with a flat bottom to clear the cross member. The problem with later model engine swaps is that the bell housing with not clear this cross member. I have seen engine swaps where this cross member is cut out to provide clearance. That is not a good solution since the cross member is a major structural component of the frame. The frame will loose some of its strength and will start bending the lower edge of the rails outward as it sags. The solution would be to replace the cross member to maintain structural integrity. I think there are companys that make a special cross member for the job. I remember seeing an article about this very subject in one of the truck mags (custom classic I think.) Check some of the advertisers in these mags for a possible supplier. On another subject I am moving my web site. I have cleaned it up and updated it some so check it out. http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://members.xoom.com/Chelley Jon E. In some cases, extremely worn exhaust valve guides will puke hot exhaust into the covers creating crankcase pressure and burning the oil off of everything. You don't see that much without accompying tired rings and valves too. You'd have to put a set of worn out heads on a fresh short block really (that's what seems to be the case with my FE). It's likely the rings. Does anyone know if the 16 inch rims off of the 97 Fords fit? I tried to get some info from the local Ford house but got blank stares when I asked about bolt patterns. I guess the only thing they do is punch the year model into the computer and see if they have the wheel or not. I was told to talk to an after market place for 16 inch wheels for my truck. Article was in Custom Classic > trucks.. oh yea Feb 98. > > Mike in Seattle Mike, Ive been running jacobs ignitions for years and depending on the condition of your present ignition system you will see an increase in power. If you have a perfect ignition system now that is 90-95 percent efficient then you won't see that much gain but if you figure that mis-fires in a normal vintage engine in good condition is about 10 percent of the time. The jacobs system monitors the spark plugs 30 times each firing cycle, if each time it samples the resistance of the plug and it hasn't fired yet, it increases the voltage to the plug. I tinkered around with my magnum omni pak to see if it was true or not, and was surprised to be able to get a blue spark to jump about 3 inches to my firewall, and that takes a LARGE voltage supply to jump that far. I personally bought one because my ignition died at about 6800-7000 RPM and I needed it to get to 7800. It has cured all my problems, coupled with a electronic distributer you can't go wrong. Dr. Jacobs also has a book you can purchase with all the theory behind the ignition included which will really give you some insight into the ignition process and his ideas to control it. The one system that seems to stand out is the electromotive (http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.electromotive-inc.com/hpv.htm). I don't think you'll have any problems with RPM if this system works as claimed. Another really nice idea would be some German manufacturer's, where they just stick a coil on each spark plug (no wire). I tried to pick up the paint using the original paint code, but the store told me that the formula for my colour (1970 royal maroon)is no longer available in the line of paint that i want (ppg delstar enamel). So i took the big book of paint chips out into the parking lot to match up the colour (early 1980's maroon *looks* the same) Anyway... I remember someone asking about engine colours. In that book there was a bulletin dated August, 1984 with colours for valve covers, breathers, and engine blocks along with the PPG paint codes (delstar, ditzler and delthane) for most ford engines from 1960-1980. I am guessing that any PPG dealer should have this info, since the place i was at has only been selling PPG paint since 1993. NOT having had a real good backround in mechanics I managed to do it fairly well.Where I screewed up was when i got the c6 it was out of a SHORTBOX and so the adapter at the end of the c6 where it connects to the transfer case was TOO SHORT, i had to then be in 2 wheel drive till i found a driveshat fer the front.Dont know if this will work with yer supercab or not but it worked with my 78 longbox. things you have to get 1.
