Wrongo Garry, you need another master cylinder. From my past experiences,
most parts houses will only sell you the master cylinder along with the
brake booster, so you may want to return it.

Subject: FTE 61-79 - Susie's clutch and tranny

First I'd like to thank Don, Tony, Jeff, Gary and all others who replied
to my problem with ideas. To refresh memories, Susie is my '79 F-250 with
the newly rebuilt 429 and Np435. I pulled the fork boot but because of all
the linkage, exhaust, etc, couldn't see a thing in the bell housing, but it
smelled funny. I went in the cab and pulled the floor pan and then the
shifter and again got "that" smell. So, when in doubt, I went and got dad.
He took a sniff and just said "pull it". I pulled the transmission back and
we both got under to look in the bell housing. Couldn't find anything wrong.
Dad fiddled with it while I got inside to work the clutch. He said
everything was working right cause when I pushed in the clutch, the clutch
plate dropped to the bottom of the bellhousing (No shaft installed to hold
it when disengaged from pressure plate). Next we put my transmission in
dads truck and went to the transmission shop. This got real interesting! The
guy at the shop pulled the top cover and instantly said "this transmission
is burnt up". That's when dad got "the look". He always wears sunglasses,
and he's a retired Marine, was a drill instructor and spent 6 years as the
chief instructor at the Infantry Training School. So, he pulls out the
receipt for the guy and says "I brought you a good working transmission, you
repaced all the seals and put in a kit and I paid you $250.00. Now I have a
burnt up transmission and the truck isn't even running yet. What are we
going to do about this?" The guy went back inside and everybody got into a
little huddle for about three minutes then he came back and sez all he can
figure is that the transmissions got mixed up and they gave us the wrong one
back. The owner is on vacation, so dad left the transmission and receipt and
said he'd be back Monday to see the owner. I hate it that I can't get my
truck running till next week now, but I'd sure like to skip school Monday
and go see this. But I can't, dad's letting me stay home today so I can go
help pick up the 69 pickup. So I'm at a standstill till next week when I
expect to get my transmission. Got to get Susie running!!! 429!!!! Edelbrock
750!!!! dual 2 1/2 exhaust right straight back!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

so far it seems to me that more on the front is better as the sled itself
weights the back. i have seen some people weight the truck in the middle
and back, but did it help? i don't really know. the 2wd guys have the
balance of the weight to worry about more than us 4wd guys for sure.

most of the 4wd guys spend alot of time lightening the back end, or there
are the "cheaters" that move heavy items like front axles, engines+trans,
forward to get more front bias.

only flemington NJ has alot of weight classes. there are common rules to
each place, but each has some of it's own rules. each points pull has the
same exact rule book, but there are more non-points pulls than pulls for
points.

each of the non-points events has some different rules and sometimes it
depends on who inspects the truck as to whether or not it passes into a
stock class or not. pulls put on by the Buck Motorsports have their own
rules also.

it is not difficult to build a truck that fits the rules at every event.
during the rules meetings tho everyone has a different idea of what the
rules should be.

IMHO the rules are not really any good anyway as for example-most of the FE
engines i know of in the small block class are over the 360 cid limit,
usually 390's or 410+ engines. none of the chevy SB are legal.

there is no CID limit in my class, but the rules say no aluminum heads and
yet they are everywhere! but, i'll just go by the rules and try to win
anyway.

Do these places use "national rules" such as the NTPA, or is it pretty much
"house rules" at each track?
It's been a few years since I've been to the Truck Pulls, but I don't
remember there being that many weight classes.

i have seen some of them used and they work well in soft tracks like sussex
NJ. in the hard tracks, sometimes so hard your tires squeel and smoke, the
AT's are the hot ticket every time.

a couple places here allow cut tires and i have seen some wildly cut offset
chevrons in BFG's and even some wooley boggers cut up. a set of MT's and
some others. they really work when they are done right. on softer
surfaces it seems that turning the chevron the "wrong" way helps my 4
wheeler, so i was thinking about that and .....

around here most of the street trucks have to run uncut tires,so most of
them
use
the tsl boggers,and the classes allowing cut tires they are running cut

I've got a 65 F250 with a NP 4 speed and Dana 60 rear running 4.10
gears, running a 75 351W for an engine. I also have a complete 3 speed
overdrive (SROD), including bellhousing,flywheel,driveshaft out of an 82
F150 (that also had a 351W) that I'd like to transplant into my old 65
to give me lower rpm highway cruising. What kind of problems will I run
into as far as the old 2 piece drive shaft, I'd like to put in a 1 piece
and remove the hardware that is currently used for hanging the drive
shaft. Will my clutch bracket still work? Any info on this would be
appreciated. Most of the guys I know up hear are running Chevy's and
Jeeps, and haven't been able to give me a lot of help.

Here's a "towing in gear" story... It's not Ford truck related, but it's
probably a good "don't let this happen to You" story.

A friend of mine was at an Isuzu dealer one day, and there was a complete
4-cyl motor sitting in the shop. He said it looked brand new except for
one side of the block was thoroughly blown out, with a huge gaping hole
in it. Naturally he just had to ask...

Apparently an older couple had bought a brand new isuzu pickup in some
midwest state and towed it home to california behind their winnabago.....
